As the title suggests, I was wondering if there's anyone on the GOG forums who is looking forward to the Classic Battletech 25 Anniversary Box Set that comes out next week?

I played the game for the first time at Origins in 2009, I liked the game a lot, but when I went to purchase the Introductory Box Set, it was sold out but I was informed that the new and improved anniversary box set would be out in a few months.

It is now nearly 2 years later, and my long wait is reaching it's end. I even had a dream about Battletech last night, and I had to go to the library yesterday to pick up a Battletech book to read.

So old fans of the game, new players, or people who are interested in knowing what Battletech is, chime in!
First played it sometime in the mid-80s, back when it was called Battledroids: paper and pencil game on a hex-grid battlefield. I think Lucas made them change the name since he didn't appreciate the use of his copyrighted "droid" I've played one or two of the Mechwarrior sims, and also DLd last year the free releases of the RTS versions. Good stuff.
Ive played the computer game on amiga released back in 1989 called BattleTech: The Crescent Hawk's Inception by westwood wich was imho a great game, really loved it even if i never finished it cause was too difficult or just i didnt figure out exactly what to do, you know at those times you didnt have the net to check guides or such about games.
Also played machwarrior franchise where i remember machwarrior 2 think it was my favourite, but ofc its an action/simulation mix spin off.
Never played the board game tbh (which i didnt even know was present back in the days) even if this gundam like setting was appealing for me sure.
I used to play it a lot in the '90s, had the miniatures, a ton of the source books, and played with a family member from time to time. Then FASA went out of business, and I sold all my stuff to somebody in the U.K.
Man, I used to love Battletech. Setting up those hex maps was fun enough, but nothing could make me smile like running a 5/8 Axeman across ice to slide 12 hexes and melee down the heavy in one shot (usually losing my arm in the process), or getting off a 30+ hit salvo from my Catapult's LRM20s just in time to keep myself from getting swarmed.

The old Mechwarrior series was a really great game series, too. The first one hooked me good on my old 16 MHz 386 (I know, I know, I was late to the show), and Mechwarrior 2 (especially with the Mercenaries addon) was just fantastic.

Also, though I know I shouldn't do this, I know one GOG team member offline, so I can say with certainty that at least one of the blue posters has played some serious BattleTech, too.

That's cool about the ice, I didn't know terrain could be used like that. I'm looking forward even more to the game.

Microsoft has actually allowed Mechwarrior 4 to be released for free on mektek.net. They've updated the graphics, and have added a lot of new mechs and weapons to the game.
I've been pretty big into Battletech for about the past 10 years. The last Box Set was really nice, great value in how much stuff you get. Kinda sucks that there havn't been any PC games for a while because overall they've been really awesome, and got me into battletech itself. The fiction lends itself to all sorts of awesome games, some really well done pulp sci-fi.

Are you aware of the upcoming PC / XBOX360 Mechwarrior game? There's not a tremendous lot about it out, but it's very shiny ^_^

I may turn out just as disappointing as Front Mission Evolved, but who knows... That depends on expectations, and they are quite high.

There might be a way to download the game without the installer I believe, but I'm not too sure.

The new Mechwarrior game, well, we'll just have to wait and see. I tried the demo for the Transformers 2 game, and it wasn't that great in my opinion. But the Mechwarrior game won't have a movie pushing it forward at a break neck speed to be finished, so maybe we'll get a quality game.
I hope this comes to the uk cause I want a copy
There are so many Mechs that I miss getting the chance to pilot, both Clan and Inner Sphere. I just want to fire a PPC one more time!

It's been ages since I was at the helm of a Masakari, Awesome, Ryoken or Devastator. :(
BattleTech fan here... played back in the early 90's..

also i loved Battletech: The Crescent Hawk Inception PC game.
I dont know how many hours i played that game. Sadly i still have the secton of the instruction manual memorized of the mech parts to play the game.
