phaolo: Wait, you don't care about good graphics, the only great thing that 90% of new AAA games have? O_o

HijacK: I see what you did there. xD
Well, take Dishonored for example. I enjoyed the game for the gameplay and the world, and even the story. On PC, Dishonored looks great, while on console it looks good at best, but I didn't mind that.
Lol XD
I see your point, but.. for me consoles are very limited, so I must always say something. :P

ex: it's like seeing a new movie on a big screen vs a small one; you can enjoy it as well, but probably lose a lot.
At first I was a little confused as to all these farewells, but I think I'm starting to get the hint. I myself have also slowed my gaming way down as I've gotten older, and as some have mentioned, this network/cloud/DRM stuff is just really antithetical to many of us... so we're just moving on. For those reasons, I totally agree. Time has passed, the original games we 80s and 90s kids grew up on are now a whole generation in the past. Doom? That game is 20 years old now. The SNES and SEGA Genesis? Going on 25 years old. The Atari and Commodore? Don't even start counting. You'll cry.

Believe it or not, a lot of gamers actually have jobs, and wives, and a few even have kids. So I guess in a way, in ones and twos, we're all growing up. It's a sad thing to think about... even worse considering that there's no retirement pension for gamers. When I see kids hacking their WiiU, or hopping all over their living rooms via Kinect, I know my days are numbered. Oculus? The idea of millions of 12 year old Lawnmower man kids bumping into things with VR helmets on frankly makes me laugh. We all have our day in the sun, and the 8-64 bit generation is seeing its sun setting. *Sniff sniff*

jamyskis: Oh, I'm a PS+ subscriber alright, but I'm not as delusional as you seem to think.
Nothing to do with delusionism, nor was I talking about you in particular.

jamyskis: ...
I still have my 6-year-old budget laptop which is good for simple indie games and some GOG titles, but my days of actual proper PC gaming are now at an end.
...
I have a budget laptop with no 3D card as well and saying that's good for "some" titles is a bit of an understatement, GOG has enough games with low system requirements to last you until you grow a white beard (possibly even longer). I doubt anyone has played -all- the good old games worth playing, add to that occasional indie releases with low system requirements and you have a backlog of years and years without having a single AAA modern game in there.
Many years ago I got myself a $6000 PC, nowadays I play on a $300 laptop but I never thought it's not "actual proper PC gaming" anymore, I just did away with the graphics whorism and haven't missed it since.

wpegg: Well, tradition is tradition.
Hilarious lol lol :-D

My pc desktop died a slow death by Blue Screen....soooooo I bought a new one. :-) No ps here.
I never had a console, but hey, if that makes you happy. In the last 10 years I had exclusively laptops. First being an acer with a Pentium 4 I think and some crap ATI (today AMD) graphics card. Still I could play IWD2 on it, so it wasn't THAT bad :D. Afterwards I begun buying gaming oriented laptops, and while I can't run all games on highest settings, I did play lots of graphically intensive games (including Crysis, X-series etc.). Anyway I should stop rambling and come to a point... which I've forgot... anyway I hope you'll still play some of your older games ;)
I see your point. Nothing beats sitting on my couch playing PS3. But still there are games exclusive to PC that I love playing and I don't think I could ever give that up and just move to consoles altogether. Even when I'm using an 8-year-old PC. :D

Precisely. I would say that the laptop is good for around 90% of the GOG catalogue. It only really struggles on games that require CPU cycle counts in DOSBox or more recent titles, so I can come back to my backlog when I want to.

But that laptop generally only gets used when I'm on the road. When I'm at home, I tend to play on one of the numerous consoles that we have in the house.
In a few years, when your console is outdated and your PC broke down for good, you'll buy a new one and be back on GOG. There's no way out, better stay right away ;-)

Also, she got sick and tired of having to fire up the PC and Steam each time
My PCs are never turned off. Not a single one of them. For the last 20 years.

(No, I don't have 20-years old PCs. I mean, all the PCs I've had in the last 20 years never got turned off. Until they were stolen, trashed or gifted away.)

The amount of electricity wasted is atrocious!

I still pay a lot less electricity than most of the people I know (I use gas for cooking and hot water, and firewood for heating). And most PCs go into low-consumption mode when not used.

Don't give companies an excuse for nuclear power plants. >_> They are a huge potential threat to the environment.

As for the other stuff, I think most of the world still uses gas for cooking and hot water. There are few to none countries where electricity for everything is a standard.

Fission ones, not fusion ones. Still hope for the future ;)
