I've been saying that even if people think that the FPS is a horrible Idea that ruins X-COM, they should still be happy because it meant that there would be a possibility of an actual X-COM game being made. Still they said that a dead X-COM franchise is better than an FPS X-COM. Lets see what they say now that the FPS really did allow an Actual X-COM game to be made.

crazy_dave: I wonder how both 2K and Fireaxis got the rights to make XCOM games ...

wodmarach: Firaxis is part of 2k and has been given permission by them to revamp any microprose game sid wants to (seriously it was in the purchase agreement apparently)
Got it. Cool.

Jumping to conclusions much though? The game isn't even released? Who's to say one is the result of the other?

I suppose you could be right, but I highly doubt its any other way than FPS first. Just consider the popularity of the genres, and the fact that console gamers outnumber PC gamers by a large amount. Then consider how big publishers like 2K Games operate. It may be an assumption, but I think its a pretty realistic one.

There's also other XCOM-inspired games like UFO:Alien Invasion (free) or Xenonauts (Alpha Funding on Desura).
please please please don't suck
Looking forward to this and after the the XCOM FPS it's very good news. I wonder if Xenonauts will drop its price after this piece of news, I want to get the game but I'm waiting for a pricedrop.

KOC: The proper remake is by Firaxis.
This is the best sentence I've read in gaming in a long time. Where can I preorder?
I will be ultra happy if Terror From the Deep gets a remake too. I would love to play a version of that game without all of the weird research bugs D:
Just checking: will this be (in theory) like Fallout Tactics then? I've never played any of the X-COM or UFO games, but I love F:T so if this will be anything like that I must definitely keep my eye on it. Although I guess what I'm asking isn't so much if this game is like F:T (how can anyone know for sure at this point?), but more like are the old X-COM games similar to F:T? As I said, I really like that genre (Commandos, Desperados, Silent Storm, etc. too) where you only control a small squad, but despite that the "classic" RTS-genre very rarely makes me interested at all. Pretty much only exceptions in my entire history as a gamer are Dune 2000, Red Alert, and the HOMM-series (if it counts).

While I'm at it, I guess I could ask any recommendations (games already released) that are like Fallout Tactics. Here's a little list of that kind of games I've already played through:
-Commandos 1+2 (and the expansion pack for 1st. Not really interested in Commandos 3)
-Desperados (the sequels look bad though)
-Silent Storm 1+2
-Robin Hood (technically still a work in progress but I do own it already, nevertheless)
-Both Freedom Force games

any others? I already own Jagged Alliance (the one GoG gave for free at some point) but strangely I never got into that game. Maybe it was too old or something...hard to say.

Most of stuff you have listed there aren't tactical or strategy games like Fallout Tactics, Commandos, Desperados and Robin Hod are more like puzzle games.

Best thing is to buy the original now via Gamersgate because the pack is 75% off or try the next best thing - Jagged Alliance 2.
JUSTICE!
The news I was waiting for, instead of that FPS game (yes, I know it might end up being good as it is developed by BioShock people, but I want the real deal, a strategy game).

This is what X-COM means, and I hope Firaxis delivers it not much dumbed down. Although I did not like the art style in that cover, Firaxis did delivered with Civilization Revolution on both consoles.

Also, Xenonauts. :)
You know I think the gaming gods are against me this year I have no money due to wedding costs(I got to have one splurge over christmas for the sales now I have no reserve...ooops) and sequels/remakes to some of my fave games are coming out -.-
