Roman5: snip
yeah, trailer is kinda bad, but let's face it:
- all brothers in arms games gameplay was repetitive and boring as f--k
- id really want to play a game like Inglorious Basterds movie.
This looks more like Team Fortress 2, though. And it's sad.

Barnell: I hope this game is the greatest thing since slides bread and we all play it and love it. Just because it be really funny to see us all (me included) with are foots in mouth.

Fever_Discordia: you mean 'our feet' sorry it was just ironic that you messed that one up!
Ahhh my great American edumacation is showing again. hahaha
Maybe a Team Fortress 2 mod? Dunno.

hedwards: DNF was good and ready for release. The only way that it would have been better and more ready for release would have been if they had binned the entire game and started over from scratch.
LOL yeah. Basically the same story as with KOTOR 2 then.

I don't think that's a good reason to use the IP for something entirely different. I for one loved BIA games. Intuitive tactical squad-based WWII FPS. Hell yes

You're right. I believe there are many fans of BiA gameplay and they have every right to feel betrayed by new concept.
I did like the first 2 games; refreshingly different from other WWII shooters around. 3rd one was a huge disappointment. An entire level where you go solo in a squad based game? No thank you, I won't have any of it.

Theres a couple of insider rumours floating around that when they got hold of the assets etc they had to decide between throwing it away or fixing the bugs and punting it out the door... they decided that rather than make it go another 3 years and spending even more on it they'd punt it out and depending on sales make a proper game..

The problem is that they've now locked in several things that had they just bought the IP they wouldn't be lumbered with. Firstly there are the expectations regarding quality. Those have now plummeted. From all that was expected from DNF to the sad reality. It has been a harsh fall.

Secondly there is the fact that they've also locked in expectations regarding content. They could have come up with something more like Serious Sam with DN3D's more open exploration-encouraging maps. But instead they created an extremely linear cover shooter that in no way contains the strengths of the old games.

So, while they could have used the IP to make a good game they might now be considering abandoning it after the critical backlash and poor sales.

Personally I liked DNF by and large, but the number of changes that would be necessary to appease the people that hated it would more or less necessitate a completely new game from scratch.

That being said, when I loaded it up for the first time I felt a lot better about it than I did when I loaded Doom 3 for the first time. IMHO they managed to capture the spirit of Duke just fine, most of the folks that were bitching about it didn't really get the original one. And that's fine, it isn't necessarily supposed to be for everybody.

I tried the demo and for me what killed it was the significantly worse and very linear level design and constant need for cover. It just lacked so much of what made DN3D great.

The only one of those I really don't understand is the flight-sim. Also, I'm not terribly certain what differentiates Uncharted type 3rd person action from Dead Space's 3rd person action.

What? So a generic space horror game decides to be generic in other closely related genres. No loss.
