I'm inclined towards #1. It looks the most dynamic of the lot to me, with a sense of motion that the others seem to lack. Maybe altering the ground with influences from #2 or even #3 might make the situation look more dire still, but maybe that would be overdoing it. I know the square root of bugger all about anything, so it's hard to tell.
EDIT: This might affect how you perceive my answer, so I should probably mention that I haven't bought the game and that I only know what I've seen on the GOG page and on the post-mortem. It's not my kind of game, I'm afraid, but I do sincerely wish you all the best, both in selling your current product and developing the next one.
