What will they achieve by this (other than costing charities money), is that they will spike the number of fraudulent transactions, effectively masking transactions where nefarious individuals are personally benefitting. I wonder...

I suppose that depends on how savvy the banks are. With all the terrible press that they've been having, if I were King of the Bank, I'd let this pass and refund all chargebacks to the charities and match the donations. Bam. Instant, big, positive press, all for the cost of maybe half a dozen defaulted mortgages.

Ah, irony.

And probably making the banks heavily invest in countermeasures that my be in place after the anonymous looses it's interest, thus making said transactions harder for others.

I'd love to think they were. I have a more cynical view. Don't forget that someone in the Anonymous / lulzsec / TeamPoison currently has 70 million credit card details from the playstation hack. If I wanted to monetise that information, I'd want some way of increasing the yield on fraudulent transactions. Some way of creating massive interference in the banks systems, slowing down the detection and recovery rate, thus giving me more time to get that money cleaned and away from them.

The only people who benefit from this situation are the credit card criminals. I challenge you to present a short term use case where they don't. Obviously there are too many variables to predict the long term impact.

I think, since they base this o Robin Hood, and while he may be a fictional character, he stole the money from people who weren't really suffering from lack of it, and gave it to persons that had a greater need for it. I don't think, even if he did exist, that he at that time was making all these complex calculations about how stealing from a banker will effect all his well-to-do clients. At the end of the day, someone will have to cover their cost, and if it's the orphanages, then shit's gonna fly. That's the strategy behind this, isn't it? Rile up the populace when the sheriff of Nottingham comes in town to collect extra taxes to replenish the stolen cash.

I hope they piss off a super hacker and get their machines minced with super viruses that would be ironic.

Enough is enough they have had their 5 minutes of fame now they need to bugger off and leave people and companies alone as they are not helping anyone.

Well, since they're chaotic neutral, at least they're preserving the balance. Harpers would be proud.

Please note: I'm not here to promote or justify their actions, but I find it funny how people can think an internet phenomenon can just cease to exist. It comes with the main product, like it or not. I find it fascinating because it promotes the theory of converging consciousness.

Interesting... Anonymous is stealing from the banks (with hacking) and everyone is up in arms. And the banks are stealing from charities with bizarre fees (charging the receiving party for fraudulent transactions? WTF?) and nobody seems to care.

I'd say they are both equally at fault. Banking fees are a significant portion of their income, and this publicity might help rein them in. And of course publicity is usually a double-edged sword for clandestine groups, especially hackers.

Ah. And they will do what? Try to take down a bunch of Cyber Terrorists. Tis not so easy as reporting them mate.

All they're going to do is cause more trouble for the charities, do these guys think anything through?
