tfishell: I don't necessarily view this as a bad thing, I'm just disappointed Curse isn't a publisher with a backlog of classics. :P

Also I hope this isn't considered one of the "big things" mentioned in the article, because I have no interest in registering on Curse.
Ditto, also not interested in the slightest
Got to agree with everyone who is confused. So apparently there's some Curse website that offers a completely pointless client (and only for Windows, at that), with premium subscription removing ads from it and adding a few more completely useless things to it... That is not worth noting at all.

Not to say that the whole deal won't increase the popularity of GOG, and I have nothing against that, but this announcement seems to be dropped out of the blue and is completely irrelevant. Probably should have been phrased better, indeed...
Um... WTF!?

Kudos for GOG.com for going out there and helping another community by offering free games, but besides advertsing, how exactly does that help the GOG.com community?

I mean, I have no idea what Curse is about, and after looking at their site, I am still baffled.

The only thing I see is that I don't play any of the games on Curse, and more importantly, I don't see any of the games on GOG.com actually on Curse either.

I just don't get it - people who are going to pay for a premium membership from Curse aren't likely to become GOG.com members, simply because it seems that playing the GOG.com games would detract from playing the Curse stuff they are paying a subscription for.

Of course, I know loads of people have different subscriptions to lots of things, but this still doesn't seem as anything more than just advertising, with very minimal impact for the majority of GOG.com-ers.

Of course, I could be wrong, but without knowing roughly how many members also have a membership to Curse, it is hard to see the relevence of this. It is a bit like giving free games to those who become premium members of Netflix or something...

Oh no, a business arrangement that benefits GOG and doesn't affect us in any way! Quick, we must complain!

You're only making yourself look bad with a response like that.

Bloodygoodgames: Curse has a lot more money - they're HUGE. 30 million unique visitors a month, offices in a handful of countries, and part of a network of very very successful websites. One of the world's largest gaming networks, with gamers playing some of the most popular games in the last 10 years.
So what, that does not mean they have more money than gog, or even "a lot" more. gog has millions net profit per quarter, the numbers are public. I could not find anything for this curse.

Well, it's not like GOG is *forcing* Curse memberships down our throats or anything. If you don't want anything to do with Curse, you don't have to. Did GOG say you absolutely HAVE to have a Curse membership? No.

El_Caz: The client link pretty much explains what Curse does and the difference between free and premium: http://www.curse.com/client

If you're into single player, dislike MMO's and such or prefer to play the vanilla version instead of pimping your game with add-ons, then give it a pass.

If not, this is just an extra cherry to get people to upgrade their free accounts. From GOG/Curse perspective, this is a win-win marketing move.
This!!

Too many people are calling wolf here without actually making an effort to check what Curse is.
Also i find it srange that most people endorse Mods and addons on GoG but dont endorse a site where alot of mods and addons are gathered.

Baffles my mind.

I just love how one guy was all "How does this benefit ME? If it doesn't - why the hell are you even telling ME about it?" xD.
So, gog gets hammered for weeks with black magic spam, and finally partners up with curse, hmm ?
And right now i'd wish to have the ability to create a poll in a topic and ask the GOG users: how many of you actually are curse.com premium subscribers.

Because we have this official comment that claims that there are MANY GOG.com users that already have a premium subscription on curse.com...

P.S>: nothing against advertising, but at least make clear what are you advertising for and how this benefits GOG. Because i never saw two more different ideologies....

I find it odd that Curse has nothing at all abort GoG on their front page.

LOL, my thoughts exactly :)

There are absolutely ZERO negatives for GOG gamers with this announcement, so why people think there are is beyond me?

It just advertises GOG to several million people every month, brings in more gamers to GOG and means even more people will buy GOG games, meaning GOG has more money.

More money = more power = more clout with publishers = possibly more old classic games will be released = benefits for all of us.

Really.

And? I don't see most people complaining about that. When I read the comments I see them being confused by this announcement and that's what they're complaining about. Trying to claim the complaints are about the partnership when they're in fact about the announcement's text is dishonest at best.
