Took a look at the site and I still have no idea what it does and what its purpose is. If anything I'd love to see GOG.com team up with Gameranger for more online multiplayer support in old games.

I don't see anything positive about this. It just looks like a tool that caters to lazy people.

renthicya: I can't really say I'm glad, I had visited many sites in the past which were ruined (abandoned or changed completely from what they were and aimed for) after they "partnered" with them. Hope this will not be the case with GoG.

Fenixp: If anyone is going to be ruined or changed completely in this relationship, it's not going to be GOG :-P Just guess who's got more money...
Curse has a lot more money - they're HUGE. 30 million unique visitors a month, offices in a handful of countries, and part of a network of very very successful websites. One of the world's largest gaming networks, with gamers playing some of the most popular games in the last 10 years.

I'll reserve judgement until I see what this is all about.

It WILL bring more people to GOG to buy more games, though, and that's always a good thing :)

Telika: Even after visting their website, I still don't know what curse.com is about.
Its about Addons and mods.
Wery known by WOW players and a couple of other MMo,s
The client update mods for you so you dont have to do it yourself.

Well thats what they started out as but it seams they have expanded since ive used it.
Some of the more kniown addons woud be Deadly Boss Mods and questhelper for wow but as i said they also have mods and addons for other games.

F4LL0UT: I'm wondering how much Curse.com had to pay the hacker to hijack an admin account on GOG.com and post this.

Seriously now, I have no idea what's going on here and I especially have trouble determining how this is a good thing.
It is marketing.

Curse wants shiny-things to make it's subs more appealing.

GOG doesn't mind having more exposure.

Curse signs a contact to buy a shit load of game keys from GOG, GOG agrees to promote Curse buying those keys, Curse gives out said keys to subscribers.

.... completely side unrelated to the topic at hand: my cat just sat on my bluetooth headset and turned it on, like actually sat her but on the power switch hard enough to hold it down for the 5 seconds it takes to turn it on.

They do? Huh, I've never even heard of the site. My ignorance doesn't mean they're not popular of course.

Lafazar: This is a ... really weird partnership.

Their site is doing an incredibly terrible job explaining what it is they do exactly. From what I can gather they offer a client to manage mods for some supported games. And you can pay for a premium account so it actually saves your settings. Great, I guess?

Also it looks like the supported games are mostly MMO and always-online games, so IMHO exactly the opposite of what GOG.com offers.
My reaction as well. I signed up and I'll see if I'll need anything from that site but since I don't play MMOs and stuff with addons I don't see me having anything to do with it except perhaps to download Terraria maps, syncing worlds and characters could be neat I suppose.

They seem to be a site where you can download mods.

Announcing this partnership on the front page like this was a mistake. Nobody here understands what curse actually does and it's not even explained in the article.

Frankly the whole thing comes off as nothing more than paid advertising and is leaving me with a really bad aftertaste.

Pheace: Mostly bad connotations in memory.
You remember something called "curse".... being a bad thing?

Color me surprised :P

In all seriousness I don't know what to make of the website myself but the move makes a lot more sense as a ploy to get more Curse users to use GOG.

But do we want those kind of players? They're worse than the upper-middle class.

Amen. ;)

Still, I find the few "the sky is falling" comments that have been posted here already highly amusing.

You know GOG -is- a business

Uh-oh. Judging from those comments Curse.com comes across as the Big Bad Wolf to some gamers. Don't worry guys! This is our way of doing something nice for a large community of people that may not know GOG.com yet, and maybe gaining some new users in the process. Nothing to be alarmed, and no one is going to huff and puff at anyone else.

I don't necessarily view this as a bad thing, I'm just disappointed Curse isn't a publisher with a backlog of classics. :P

Also I hope this isn't considered one of the "big things" mentioned in the article, because I have no interest in registering on Curse.
