Has anyone played it? I'm still pretty new to the world of being able to buy legal games, and I've never spent anything like $50 on a single game before. However, it does look like something I'd like, and I'm excited by the fact that it seems to be one of the only new games on GG that doesn't require me to have Steam (which isn't an option).

So, anyone played it? If so, was it worth the money? And what are the chances of it being on sale during "week 4" or whatever they are calling it on GG? I'd hate to spend $50 on a game only to see it 60% off a few days later.

Well, it depends if you like those kind of games. Have you ever played any other game of the Anno series (it is very similar to Anno 1404).

In my opinion, it's is a great game. Not only has it pretty nice production values. It will see free DLCs for several month. It uses the "online meta-level" (which requiers a constant internet connection) very well. While the game is 100% playable in offline mode, the gains from the online mode are significant enough stay always online.

Fans say, it is inferior to Anno 1404. I don't think so, and I like the futuristic theme of the game. I bought it pretty much on release.

There is a demo available, that gives you a good insight of the game. If you like the demo, the game is for you.

If you don't want to fork out that much money, you might wanna go with Anno 1404 (Dawn of Discovery in the US). You should get the Gold edition rather cheap, and that alone gives you enough playtime to last several months! (If you like those kind of games of course)

Thanks for the advice. I've never played any of the Anno games. Things that made me think I might like it are the beautiful graphics, the whole 2070 thing (i like sci fi, futuristic stuff), and the fact that I've liked the few building strategy games I've played (though my experience is limited to things like Sim City 2000).

The only reason I can think of why I might not like it, is that it seems to be very complicated. I like complicated games if I can stick with them for long enough to understand their intricacies, but sometimes I get put off by not being able to understand stuff or remember what a million different buttons do.

Youtube videos are also an option when trying to figure wether or not it's a game for you. Anno 2070 is popular mainstream game so it has quite few Let's play's ongoing.

It comes with limited activation tages. A slight improvement on UbiDRM, in the same way that cancer is an improvement on Ebola.

If you have to buy the game gamersgate is pretty god at solving that kinda shit. An email to their support will get you new ones.

Gamersgate is definitely the place to get activation limited games. They'll even issue new codes (effectively a new license) if they have to. But it's still tages...

Well, so far my limited experience of dealing with their support has been terrible. I bought an online game from them only to find that the game's servers haven't been online in over 2 years. They don't sound like they are about to find a solution or give me a refund in blue coins, and the game is still for sale even though they now know it's no longer playable. I tried to write a review of it to let others know, but the review never showed up. I've gotten 15 games from them since I joined on the 11th of this month, and this is the only one that doesn't work (though there are still 4 or 5 I haven't downloaded and installed yet).

As for Anno, if it's half as good as it looks from youtube vids I've seen of it, then I guess I pretty much have to get it. However, I'm going to wait until the last week of GG's sale to see if it ends up there just in case ;)

The fanbase's reception has been pretty positive considering the time period the game takes place in. As a long-time Anno fanatic, I consider 2070 one of the best titles in the series. Actually, it's the best game I've played this year!

Don't let the limited activations scare you away, the DRM is not a problem at all unless you start installing the game on all of your neighbours' computers. Chances are, it'll eventually end up being patched out (check Anno 1404 for reference).

Well, I've only been on the german forums, and well, the loudest group, at least, doesn't like the game as much as Anno 1404. Or they simply like complaining (with most of them beeing German, that's is very likely). I'm having a blast with it and will probably be playing it for a looooong time.

Monsta, if you've bought 11 games in such a short time, you could try playing some of them to tide you over until 2070 shows up on a deal, even if it's not on this ongoing sale. The game is rather new and even if it goes on a deal, I figure it won't be that big of a discount.

That's exactly what I was just thinking. In total between the gog sale and the GG sale, I've bought over 40 games, and haven't even downloaded half of them yet (due to my crappy internets). The idea was that it would mean I won't need to pay full price for anything anymore, as theoretically it should be enough games to keep me going until next year's christmas sale if no other decent sales come up before then.
