What do you guys think about anime in general, what is it in your opinion?
I tend to like the more serious anime. The more fanservice/'comedy' type stuff feels forced and isn't something I'm overly interested in.
yeah i used to watch Dragon ball z and Yu-Gi-Oh when i was younger
I think there is such a diverse field of genres and sub-genres that it is outright impossible to treat "anime" as a single entity. The fact that it usually is treated precisely thus does it great disservice.

I agree, anime should be treated like 'western' tv shows instead of 'cartoons'.
They're just as diverse and sometimes have deeper storylines and character development as well.
I like a lot of varieties of anime myself, ranging from serious dramatic stories, to silly over the top comedies. To me it's all about delivery, if the delivery sucks, then I probably won't warm up to it. I have to admit though, I am more lenient on the stuff I'm willing to watch than most. I rather like Trigun, Berserk, Hellsing: Ultimate, Desert Punk, Slayers, Claymore, and a dozen others I'm not thinking of.
I absolutely love anime. It all started with Voltron and Robotech in my youth. Nowdays, I'll watch ocassionally Ninja Scroll, Berserk, Vampire Hunter D and Bloodlust, Fist of the North Star, Hellsing, etc. I used to occasionally watch Fullmetal Alchemist, Trigun, and Bleach when it was on Cartoon Network.
I used to watch heaps of anime but nowadays, I just watch classic comedy stuff like Nichijou and Kokoro Connect. Not as much fan service and has a great story that makes it incredible to watch.

I don't know if avatar the last airbender counts as a cartoon or an anime (its classified as an anime but I reckon its more a cartoon for some reason), but I'd say thats my favourite one. Currently watching the episodes of One Piece which is pretty awesome so far.
I love animes...if they are good drawn.
Most of them have very few real animation. Close ups and only
their mouth is animated or copied fighting sequences you have
seen before.

I agree with this. And as well as genre diversity you´ll find quite a quality diversity, so I guess one cannot envelop the whole anime industry in one thought, you may be able to do that for particular series or movies but not the whole of it.

I remember the first anime I saw was ¨Meteoro¨ (Mach GoGoGo or Speed Racer for others), and Mazinger Z, my favourite anime, though at that time I didn´t know what ¨anime¨ was, not even that they were made in Japan, to me they were just there in the tv :P

And I almost forgot ¨Astro Boy¨ (Mighty Atom or Atom Boy)

I dislike most of it, not for the reasons many people do; just because of the style, but because the weekly episodic anime is really low-budget, nothing really happens in an episode, they reuse animation frames and use all sorts of tricks to drag out events over 20 minutes or so (if you minus the opening/ending music), which tend to make most anime very tedious/boring to watch. Most of the shounen "battle" anime go under this category, but also the romance/comedy stuff also. Everything just goes on forever, nothing is ever concluded, the guy never gets the girl, the villain is never defeated (of if he is, a new one appears). Also I've noticed many new anime are absolutely shameless pandering, I know the "harem" thing of the main protagonist surrounded by female characters is old, but some shows these days are just ridiculous.

OVA (original video animation) and movies are generally of higher quality, but there are some older (and newer) shows which have a decent plot and production values: Baccano, Boogiepop Phantom, Cowboy Bebop, Darker than Black, Dennou Coil, FLCL, Ga-Rei Zero, Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex, Kino no Tabi, Paranoia Agent, Neon Genesis Evangelion, RahXephon, Serial Experiments Lain, Terra e, Texhnolyze.

I have tried getting back into it a few times, but stopped due to aforementioned reasons. My favorite anime of all time is called Kara no Kyoukai (Boundary of Emptiness in English) which is a series of movies I found amazing, beautiful soundtrack, unpredictable (and non-chronological) storyline, interesting characters, and just lots of very weird and unique ideas. Also it's probably the only take on "contemporary fantasy", the idea of magic and the supernatural existing in secret in the real-world, that I've found interesting.

I still watch it a fair bit, there are some many different stories and Genres.

I earliest Anime series i saw was Teknoman/Tekkaman Blade which was dubbed when they changed character Names Noal became Ringo and Aki became Star

then Bubblegum Crisis and Neon Genesis Evangelion (Which most of the Story went over my head the first time i saw it)
I like cartoons, and the Japanese seem to take cartoons seriously so I like anime a lot. I'm not too keen on that "moe" stuff or whatever it's called, that certain weird type of cutesy stuff. Animated fight scenes are the bomb (at least they can be).

I still have the DVD box set of Tekkaman Blade (subbed). I loved the series, I never watched the dub though. I heard they didn't finish the series in English.

I don't like it at all. I've never understood the attraction and never will.
