I've been watching Bleach on DVD. It's been fun so far, but Wikipedia tells me that there are 366 episodes, and I'm not convinced it's that fun, especially since Funimation [edit: Viz, apparently] sharply restricted the number of disks you get per purchase for the later episodes.

qre3o: I saw the first 3 episodes of "serial experiments lain" im liking so far.
If you plan to keep watching, it's a good sign.
Many people drop after the first few episodes. Or even after the first episode.

It's one of my favorites. Sometimes it may seem strange, but I think it's amazing.

I've seen it. It starts out good then gets deep into the "newtype" idea. Then things get all colorful and. Well watch it to the end to see if you want to continue with the sequel Kidou Senshi ZZ Gundam.

My favorite Gundam series are 0079 MS igLoo: Hidden One Year War, 0079 MS igLoo: Apocalyps, 0079 MS igLoo 2: Gravity Front, 0079 08th MS Team, 0079 War In the Pocket, 0185 F91, Turn A, X, 0096 Unicorn and 0083 Stardust Memory.

Anyone else following the new JoJo's Bizarre Adventure series? Personally, it's probably the best adaptation of the series I've seen. The animation has a weird quality to it, though. Almost like it's good and bad at the same time, like they just took scenes from the manga and animated them almost block by block. Good series overall if you like cheesy, manly action without much brainpower to it.

The newer Berserk movies are pretty good, too, but I'm not a fan of them switching between animation and CG. It's jarring. I don't think either looks bad, but I wish they'd stick with just one style. Of course, the art doesn't come near the quality of the comic, but it still looks pretty nice. It feels more like an abridged series, though, in the sense that it feels like it's made for people who already have read the manga. Some scenes are cut out and Guts' and Griffith's relationship isn't fleshed out nearly as much as I would like for a standalone movie. Still pretty good if you're a fan of the series, though.

That said, I tend not to watch a whole lot of anime. I prefer reading comics over cartoons and animation, and, as a result, I tend to sway more towards mangos. The series I'm currently keeping up with is Vinland Saga, a dark-fantasy interpretation of the Vikings' invasion of England.
Oh I love mangos! What type is your favorite to eat?

i just eat them
and then my stomach stops being hungry
so i don't eat them

why did i stop to not eat them now please?
I was an anime geek in high school, but I guess I grew up. I can't stand most of them anymore. First of all, very low production values - I understand they have small budgets, but watching still images for 1/3 of an 20 mins episode is too much for me.

Not to mention unnecessary fanservice in every new production, stupid plots, unrealistic dialogues (I just love 4 year olds talking like 60yo philosophers), etc etc.

This applies to tv series. animated MOVIES is something entirely different. I recently watched The Secret World of Arrietty and Paprika. Amazing movies.

(notable exceptions: Great Teacher Onizuka, Serial Experiments LAIN, Haibane Renmei, Monster, Evangelion and maybe few others)

Oh, it's amazing allright. Specially all that about god being on the missing bit of TCP/IP protocol, that was SO funny.

Depicting god as a pathetic, irrelevant person was one of the points of the show.

but yeah, spoilers.

I think Princess Robot Bubblegum covered Anime cliches and problems very well

Or you could just watch Strike Witches, it pretty much sums up everything that's wrong with anime today

Funny thing about this series, many years ago I used to read light novels at work (pictures aside, they were perfectly safe for work as it looks like any other wiki page). Among what I read, was what little was translated of Strike Witches, and it seemed like your average story but still decent. Years later, I gave a look at the anime and... yeah. Why do they do that?

Although, thanks to things being that way, I have more time for gaming so...

Well have you seen this Anime OVA called Blue Submarine No.6, the animation is amazing and practically no recycled images.
I've seen it. Yes it's very good. If you like series that take place on the ocean seek out 'Zipang'. It's about an Japanese AEGIS cruiser that accidentally goes back in time to the early days of WWII and the war in the Pacific. They come across some hard decision making. The future is in the balance. It's done in a more realistic style of animation (ala MONSTER)

The OP music is great as well.
