carnival73: Those complaining are us in Aussie and Zealand where the average price for a console game is $70 to $90 USD.
Thats robbery. How do u guys afford it down there. I would boycott seriously. You guys downunder gets shafted by everyone including steam.
If I wanted bitching I'd go to the Steam forums.

SNIP
I thought it was that PC gaming in general was less expensive. Although, PC games are usually less expensive than the console games. With a console you've got usually $300 or so that you have sunk even before you buy any games. Whereas many games are playable on PC with the computer you already own.

Indeed, I come here to bitch about Steam.

By order of GameStop, Steam just hits us hard for brand new AAA releases...otherwise all their other games are usually 90% cheaper than what we'd pay for them on console.

Red_Avatar: (and no, second hand does NOT count)
Why not? The existence of second hand games makes console games worth more. When I play a second hand game does it suddenly not work or something? Second hand games are part of the console economy and shouldn't be ignored as it's a way that people reduce the price of their gaming.

This is the last generation of second hand console sales anyway. Next gen (if there is any at all) will shut that down for good. There will probably be some trading through PSN/Xbox live (comparable maybe to GMG), but the second hand market of games in what we see today is done for.

And for your original post. That is like the Mets suddenly winning a game and are now celebrated as the best Sports team evar! ;-P
never mind

Yeah, quite the reach for trolling. That said if the console dudes get their acts together I bet their next-gen sales are pretty awesome.

The real reason to be a PC gamer remains though: open platform.
Mass Effect 3 digital download has been on sale for 15 bucks off and on for the last few months, even at Amazon if I recall correctly, so there goes that one.

I only paid 42 dollars for Borderlands 2 digital on the day it was released. How much was it on the Xbox and PS3 on release date? Granted, it is currently on sale cheaper on the consoles.

NSF - Most Wanted - 29.99 digital download at BestBuy.com, so it's the same price as the other platforms.

And yeah, AC3 isn't really a good comparison because it just came out on the PC. It's not on sale at any of the sites I checked.

Edit: Also, I think it's fair to consider second hand sales. There's nothing wrong with looking at consoles being cheaper to game on if you wait months and only buy your games second hand at a discount. Sadly though that's expected to be a thing of the past with the next generation of consoles.

The reason I never moved to console gaming was because it was t0o expensive.

You need a PC, simple as that. With that in mind, the extra expenses to make that PC actually gaming worthy is not bigger than to what a comparably console
TV costs (No, you don't need a TV. I haven't own one since I moved out of my parents house).

Also, as a student and pupil, most of my games came from piracy. Can't beat that in price. And even then PC retail was cheaper than console retail as console games always retain a fee for Sony/Nintendo/MS, which PC games don't have.

And now as I finally have the money to afford a console (and TV) I'm still to cheap to buy a TV. I might eventually buy a slim PS3 (or rather Xbox) and connect it to my PC screen. But (afaik) there is only a single store for digital purchases on consoles and no open market. (And I don't want clutter).

Console manufacturers would do well in establishing something like Steam. A wide array of shops to actually buy codes with varying sales and prices and not only one source.
I think it's different in the US.

In any case the reason I am a PC gamer is largely it being an open platform. Price is irrelevant, largely.
In the past, console games were always way more expensive than PC games. I used to buy PC games retail for 30 - 40 dollars. Consoles games for the N64 were like 70 - 80 dollars. Big difference.

Then pirating counts too. The existence of pirating makes PC games worth more. When I play a pirated game, does it suddenly not work or something?

*trolls face*

And actually, second hand games are not really part of the console economy which is why they're considering it a greater threat than piracy. Most of the money flows back to the game stores that sell with a huge mark up, you see, and that money doesn't go back in the economy.
Lol, second hand sales on consoles are going NOWHERE.
Btw. Console games are around 2 times more expensive here than PC games. It's country specific - PC market is much stronger here than console.

PC games are priced here initially around 30EUR while console games 60EUR
