lowyhong: Cheese have you reached the Prison level?
I found that level overrated.
I must play this game now!
*SPOILER*

Oh yes. I remember the sewer part, when, at the end, you are running from that... thing. I remember running down that long passage way, listening to the thing gaining on me. I remember I near crapped my pants (literally) when I got on the ladder and it hit me. It took every ounce of my willpower not to fall out of my chair. I took an extended break after that part.

*SPOILER END*

Damuna: I didn't continue reading that, because it looked mighty spoilerific. Please provide warning in future.
Looks like we could use a spoiler tag. Get on it, GOG.

doccarnby: You could just look at the cover of the retail release. Nightmares, gone!

TheCheese33: Yeah, what the fuck were they thinking when they made that cover? A mentally-deficient imp with its mouth wide open, instead of the horrifying creature in the game.
Huh. I saw Donald Duck's S&M obsessed brother. Guess it's like a Rorschach test, everybody sees something different.
Still waiting for my real net to be hooked up then I'm downloading it (I has it on Steam)...

My question is: do you think it will be as scary without sound for me? Do I HAVE to be able to hear to avoid the monster?

It's pointless without sound. Really.

Definitely. The sound is a major component to setting the atmosphere and losing that will significantly change how the game comes across and make it like a horror movie (where you are not scared, it just makes you "jump" from time to time).

Yeah, I'd have to say you do unfortunately, otherwise you get no warning from the howls or the music change before its there and can see you, which pretty much means game over at that point.

Dammit. Guess I need to invest in some really good headphones now....

Does anyone know any good ones I can buy? I own a Steinehauser but there's just not QUITE enough bass. I need like, illegal amounts - problem here is that no sane hearing person would make headphones that go THAT loud... Any ideas?

Maybe something like this is worth investigating.
I edited my last post with big a ol' spoiler warning. Sorry about that. I should have considered that.

As for headphones: Yes, you need them. The game is all about immersing you in the experience, and sound is a necessary component in doing so.
the demo gave me a headache more than the scares sometimes the room gets so empty it confuses out on what to do and those damn dogs...wretched music ....gave up...

The demo for Amnesia isn't a very good representation of the final product. It's much slower-paced in the game proper.
