Do I really have to suffer more? :(

Yes. Yes you do.
I should REALLY try to play The Dark Descent sometime, since I've never played it, and as you see here, it's already got a sequel on the way.
Likely won't unnerve me much at all, since I'm not all that scared (but then I'm not easily bursting into tears because something like LITTLE FOOT'S MOTHER DYING, and that's just sad) easily, but I'll never know until I try. Never.

lowyhong: You're right, it wasn't really obscure, but most people didn't care much for it. The reviews and press it got worked against it. TBH I still don't know where most of the criticisms for Overture and BP come from, because even taking away the pom-poms and rose-tinted glasses, I still felt like I was playing a completely different game than what some reviews described. Am I glad I didn't actually buy into the reviews, and eventually bought the Penumbra Collection.

I also think Frictional's early tech demo worked against them. The tech demo was impressive, technically, but it wasn't really scary. The Penumbra games are very different from what was showcased in that tech demo, and some people might have actually taken the tech demo as Frictional's standard.
When I finally got around to playing Penumbra years after I heard about it for the first time, I was expecting it to be lackluster... just something that had looked cool to my younger, more naive self. I was ASTOUNDED at how good the game actually was.

Are you talking about the free version of Penumbra? Because I actually thought it was pretty scary :P. Not anywhere near as frightening as the commercial game, though.

Honestly, I always feel sorry for the people who are all "no videogame has ever scared me!" There are so many great experiences you miss out on.

I never had much interest in scary games truth be told, I just suck at them. When I was a kid I tried to play Diablo. Scared me, was difficult for me to figure out and I gave up on it after 20 minutes, asked my mother to take it off the computer. (I was little-little at the time mind you, I tried it cause I was curious when it showed up out of nowhere one day. I think she borrowed the game).

Amnesia, also spooks me a little. Not as bad as what I remember back then. The only real reason I have any interest in it at all actually, is because I came across a youtuber called "Pewdiepie" who plays nothing but scary games, and as a rule gets the crap scared out of him. Great fun, and it helps to kind of ease into these games when you see someone else freak out. I may get it in the future but for now I don't have the money or the system for it.

That reminds me I should really play The Dark Descent now that I've decent headphones.

Yes, yes you should.

When you're done with that, do play Overture and Black Plague :>

That looks quite gorgeous, actually. Is it a new rendering engine or the same as the old one?

This is gonna have to be a backburner one for me until I am able to get my living situation straightened out and build myself a new computer. This game would bring my Intel HD 4000 laptop to its knees, begging for mercy.

Still looks like more Amnesia, which seems to be what a lot of people really want.

If you did not noticed or get what replied to you the monster for this game is Man Bear Pig.

Same engine. HPL 2.0. Frictional's proprietory engine, which weirdly enough actually started out as a 2d engine :P. They have a HPL 3.0 also, but it's being used for another, as of yet untitled project.

HPL 2 is actually quite good, I believe. Amnesia just had really blurry textures and a low polygon count, which kept it from looking as good as it could have. But the lighting was fantastic.

Fantastic.
That trailer got me so pumped.
These guys know how to make horror.
I'm super desensitized and yet Amnesia got me nervous as hell.
Scratches DC also made me breath pretty heavily.
More like them please!

They sure do. I'm not sure I'll be able to handle another Amnesia game, though O_o
