Is there any chance we'll ever get a legal Amiga emulator on GOG, so we can play games like Turrican and Gods?

A chance always exists. But I wouldn't bet on it happening any time soon.

Gotta have something new to look forward to, now that we have the "impossible" System Shock 2 at our doorstep!

Then, assuming they can work out licensing deals for the games and the existing license on Amiga Forever is flexible enough (like the GPL on DOSBox), there is no technical reason they can't get Amiga games.

the problem is the Kickstarter - not the emulator.

The emulator is quite cheap, but they do not work without a valid Kicstarter. Cloanto holds the rights to it, and sells them dearly.

If you package each game with a working kickstarter, (making them work "out of the box") then the price of the games would sky rocket...

You ever tried it? I already discovered the page some time ago, I'm curious to say the least. There doesn't seem to be a list of the particular selection of games included with the package, so I'm a little skeptical.

It works nicely, no problem at all. The games it comes with is a bit hit and miss, (and apparently changes quite often) but most Amiga games are easy to come by anyway.

Like I said, I'm not an Amiga gamer at all, but I assume you referring to an issue similar to the system BIOS requirement PS2 emulators have. If that is the case, that would be a huge stumbling block for GOG getting Amiga games.

AFAIK most games only need that one (confirmed by the information on the page itself which states that "70% of all classic games" will run with it) so I guess including the Kick ROM with most games shouldn't be a big issue.

Edit: Okay, there's a catch. You have to use some sponsor's services but apparently signing up somewhere for free is enough.

Kickstarter is the bootstrap of an Amiga - it is what is needed to initialise the machine at boot up, so to speak, and was the first primary component of AmigaOS. There are several versions, depending on which machine you want to emulate, and any (legal) emulator need one to work.

When I was a kid I was always so jealous of amiga users. You'd look at the back of your game box and the amiga graphics ALWAYS blew your versions out of the water...

hm.. yes, but 1.3 limits you to emulate A500, A3000 and A2000. Really, what you want is 3.0 or 3.1 which emulates A1200 and CD32 (its where the best games and AGA versions are)

Depends on how you define "best". Pretty much all my favourites (and of most Amiga enthusiasts I know) are Amiga 500 games (which is not surprising since that was by far the most popular model and most games were developed for it), not to mention that at least some AGA and CD32 versions, even of popular titles, are just rip-offs developed by a third party that added some sub-par content like awful FMV and stuff.

Anyway, it sucks that their selection is pretty much random. I have quite a specific list of games I'd love to play again, I guess Amiga Forever's package will include a few of them but it's still a bit risky for me, at least for now.

Btw, there also exists a certain Polish group called The Company that creates full packages where you just have to run an executable which automatically starts an emulator (apparently some custom version of WinUAE) and one of numerous games (currently ~400 titles). They claim that it's legal but I'm not convinced so I'm not gonna link to them.
