Oh man, that's where I get almost all of my PC games. I love Half Price Books! And I found me some really great hard to find games there too. Be careful though with XIII, that game has the dreaded Starforce DRM. I wouldn't recommend installing it.

Ah really? Didn't realize. I have already installed and played through it. Shortly after I formatted my PC, although not because of the game, but simply that it was time to clean my computer up a bit. So hopefully anything nasty from it is gone, and dvd drive seems okay for now. Will definitely be cautious in the future though!

And yes, Half Price is amazing. Hoping for another trip this weekend. It's addicting :(

Tell me about it. That very place is like crack sometimes. Not just games, either. The books they have can really make dents in my wallet. It's as bad as GOG sometimes.

But hey, like drugs, with a little pain comes a lot of pleasure! ^_~
So um went back to the same Salvos and came out with Wing Commander: Privateer. Any good?
Someone sold me The Neverhood for $5-ish a couple of years ago. He said that he wanted to clear space and knew I liked older games. That count?
While throwing away old CD's at work yesterday I found two interesting ones, one with Beneath a Steel Sky (sure, the game is on GOG, but having the disc in a seemingly brand new jewel case is cool anyway) and one titled "EA Compilation" containing Yeager's Air Combat, Space Hulk, Hong Kong Mahjong Pro, Wing Commander Academy, The Savage Empire, Seven Cities of Gold, Populous II, Ultima VII: The Black Gate, Shadow Caster, and Ultima Underworld. The latter disc probably came with a sound card seeing how it has the Creative logo on it, I'd guess the first was similarly bundled, though it contains no branding signifying it.

Yup, all DOS games, and I probably won't play them before they arrive on GOG (if even then), but being the collector I am, I enjoy having the discs.

... in earlier similar raids, I've grabbed unopened copies of OS/2 Warp 3, Office 2000, Windows fW 3.1, Windows 95, 98, and NT4 that otherwise would be thrown out.

Was going through my closet and found some of my favorite N64 titles. I've always wondered while Majora's Mask was gold....

And while at Half-Priced books I found the other two objects; A HEAT gaming network set with a Tshirt and Norton 5 I think...some old ass version of it.

And a game I've never heard of; Total Mayhem.

+1 for Half Priced Books. My find:

Purchased No One Lives Forever 2 for $5 at HPB in February of this year. I didn't open the box for like, 3 months. I finally open the box to put the CDs in my disc organizer and found not just NOLF2 but also the original No One Lives Forever!

Someone sold both games to HPB in the same box. Probably one of the best days of my gaming life.

A week or so back I picked up a boxed and like-new copy of Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines for just over a tenner, which considering I've seen copies in worse condition go for twice that is a good deal in my opinion. Also a new, sealed copy of Morrowind for a fiver.

Oh yeah, and I managed to download Dungeon Keeper and Alpha Centauri for close to £3 from this tiny backwater site that seems to sell nothing but old PCgames. How crazy is THAT?

Holy Batman, you just reminded me of Total Mayhem, couldn't match title to my memories and bam! Thanks, need to search ebay and local charity shops now for that title, it was great fun!

I also recently got VTMB for a tenner, from Cex...pretty new.

Other bargains are Alice, Prey, Mass Effect and Scrapland for £1 each.
My best game find was at the local flea market. Last summer, a guy was selling a bunch of odds and ends (mostly clothes and nick knacks) trying to make some cash and he had a couple of old games mixed in with old movies and cds. I sifted through them and found...

Vagrant Story priced at $1.00

The case and game were in great condition. The only thing missing was the soundtrack. No one else seemed interested, so I acted like I was thinking about it and left. I walked back to his stand about 30 minutes later, picked up the game, and asked how much he would take for it. He told me 50 cents. I offered $0.25 and got it.

No problem. :)
Necroed! I found Black and White 2 for $4.98 (installing) and Deus Ex in it's bix-box form (Shiny shiny) for $0.50.
