I should really say by the many details actually....

I've been playing the game for more then an hour.. and I've realized something, now first of all let me say that rarely have I heard such great voice acting.
Being a native french speaker, I recognize the true frenchy accent when they speak english, unlike the made up english fenchy accent one could hear from a certain "Nico Colar" in broken sword.. kof kof kof.

What's more amazing is the details they put into foreign languages the primary user won't/shouldn't necessarily see... or hear. I'll explain what I mean below by giving an example :

The greatest example would be this (I'd try to avoid spoilers)... I was knocking at some doors in the train, occupied by several egyptian women, and they wouldn't open, their husband would just tell me to leave. In comes a small french child from another compartment, knocks at one of the egyptian compartment and enters.

I said to myself, it's surely a randomly generated event that shouldn't happen, because since the beginning of the game, those egyptian women wouldn't let anybody in their compartment, and what would a french little boy go do with them since they don't seem to speak anything other then arabic ?

Then I approach the door and I hear in arabic something along the lines of " Come dear.. " "What a nice boy, he's the only one whom visit us, the others are afraid of us and don't even speak to us" and the boy replies in french "Thank you for the cake ! Haha that tickles ! "
I mean, these speech weren't translated since the main protagonist doesn't speak arabic.

I'm pretty much amazed about the amount of details put into this game... it clearly looks like it has NOT been rushed, and they recruited authentic egyptian voice actors to say very realistic lines even though most players wouldn't understand a word of it.
It feels like they aren't trying to cheat the player, they're even giving additional value that wouldn't necessarily be appreciated.

The different conversations between characters has been a delight to hear and see... and NOTHING seems out of place.
The egyptian use typical expressions, the french used is not the over-exaggerated french you could here in some games nowadays, and I'm even learning a little russian while playing :P.

Bref, this game amazed me.

What's great about that game is that you can spend a lot of time just wandering the train, listening to conversations, getting to know the characters, etc.

A lot of effort went into creating the "real-time" environment. It's a great accomplishment.
Just be glad the accents are better than the "greek" accents in QfG V. I still cringe whenever I hear the red shirt, especially since it took me quite a while to actually make sense of his name...
For me, this game is narratively unparalled. As well as the authentic voice acting and fabulous dialogue, the fantastic body language is another favourite of mine (it is better than any other game, despite being rendered at 1fps).

The whole game simply makes sense - very believable. Well, except the story towards the end. I didn't like that at all (without giving away spoilers).

It's exactly this 1fps you're referring to that is bothering me... I'm starting to wonder what would the game look like with a decent animation :/...
But then again... so many great points, it's easy to look over this main flaw.
I never played this game, but it looks so good !
Hmmm owning the game from Dotemu and being French, i have yet to install it and play through. Thanks to your post and feelings, this is giving me some more intent to get to it someday soon. For now i'm busy with small, short games to clear that helluva backlog i got me.. ><

Edit : By the way, @N0x0ss which version are you playing? GOG with only english (*cough* as usual..) or the French one from DotEmu?

I usually try to play the game in it's original language if I can understand the language or subtitles are available, so English :p

Parcontre ce serait un sacrilège de jouer à LBA (nottament le 2nd) en anglais par exemple :P.

Oh i see, very different from me as i try to get the French localisation for the most of my games. i even bought a few in two places just for this, like Gabriel Knight 1 and 2 from GOG and those at DotEmu.. (First is VOSTFR and second full French)

I don't know for LBA, i never played that game myself, though i recall my friend used to on his Amiga back in the days.. For terrible French VA, i suggest Two Worlds 1 and 2. Now THAT is something! ;)

A great exemple of a well done French VA is the Legacy of Kain series.. Awesome!

Also, good French you wrote there, bravo pas beaucoup de fautes!! ^^

koima57: Snip
If you've never played Little Big Adventure 1 & 2, you definitively should.
Both are masterpieces... and you can truly admire Frédérick Raynal's talent :).

I consider the 2nd volume to be one of the best pc video games ever created.

Good idea i'm curious about it. 3D isometric is not my thing and the game looks dated but that's just its technical and visual aspect. You might tell me more.. :)
