A very interesting RPG coming out 21 May.

The blurb from the website:
"Always Sometimes Monsters is a unique roleplaying game set in the modern world. You take on the life of your character for 30 days as you try and make it from the east coast to the west coast before your one true love marries someone else.

Along the way you'll face a myriad of choices that will alter the course of your journey and change the fate of your character. These decisions will affect the characters you encounter and the world around them, but few things are ever as binary as right and wrong. Your unique story will be shaped by your personal ethical compass, with none other like it."

The game is set in the real world, there is no combat, hitpoints or mana. The game looks very endearing and it is an original concept. It seems like it is getting a release quite a lot of places, except here on gog...

Sounds interesting but has an unbelievable story. I wouldn't even drive across the state for my true love, and if she was set to marry someone I wouldn't even bother breaking up a wedding next door.

The good news, then, is that it does not have a story, it has many random stories, and it gets randomised each time you play :)
Content Warning
Always Sometimes Monsters has content dealing with racism, sexism, homophobia, mental health, sexual assault, child abuse, animal abuse, drug abuse, and suicide.

Now thats something you don't see often in games. I'm keeping this one on my radar
I really like this concept, thanks for bringing this to our attention, amok!

It's really interesting to see a video game treading away from the usual "good vs. evil" moral duality. I don't think there are true "villains" and "do-gooders" in the world, just people trying to be happy or just trying to survive. Our motives will always clash with other people's perceptions and notions of society, so we're all bound to, at least once or twice in our lifetimes, look like utter monsters in the eyes of others or even our own.

As for love driving us, I would strongly disagree with jjsimp. That doesn't make the game less believable, in fact, it's the other way around. We live in a time of science as religion, a time of brainy and biological explanations for everything, living miserable lives focusing on jobs and money just to survive and achieve a pseudo-accomplishment feeling. But love is still in us, and if social and PC rules tell me it's obsessive and indicates mental derangement to pursue the love of my life to stop them from marrying someone else, then, at least in a video game I can do that without feeling bad or crazy. Plus, like amok said, that isn't the focus of the game, if you don't want it to be. I think it's more about what things are important to you, and what will you do to get them. Love is very important to me, no matter how society tries to force me to think otherwise, and I'd rather be sick in the head than being sick and dead in the soul.
