I had the same problem with my card, but then I called my bank "I want to use my card to buy stuff via Internet. Do something with it!". Few days later they sent me a new debit card that works fine.

Maybe try to call your bank too...

tburger: unpersonalized, 2 years valid prepaid debit VISA for one-time EUR 3 :-)
Plastic or virtual?
Can you upload it after use and if so what fees are applied?
The best virtual prepaid credit card I found so far for Germans (as in least fees and risk) is Wirecard's virtual MasterCard.

Back on the topic:
The main problem I see is in supporting a multitude of payment possibilities, which takes quite some work up front to design (want to be secure as well!) and still a little later on periodically to keep them updated. If you 'only' decide to use credit cards through PayPal (which is what GOG currently does), you cover a lot of customers with very little effort.
For a small company like GOG manpower isn't as easily wasted as with Steam.

Plastic. Yes, it can be uploaded multiple times – no charges for that. As for other fees: exchange rates (cannot be avoided) for currencies other than PLN, if transaction is in currency other than EUR you pay additionally ca. 2%. Oh – withdrawing money to a regular account is expensive (3 EUR) and also there are fees for taking cash – so I do not do this. There are also some limitations about max amount of single transaction – as far as I remember it’s 150 EUR.
why won't you use PayPal anymore? what terrible problem did you have with them?

i've been paying digital purchases with PayPal ever since i've started purchasing stuff online (many years ago) and never had a single problem with their service.

tburger: Plastic
That's really an impressive offer there!
I'm not sure why GOG doesn't offfer Moneybookers. They're good in like 200 countries and the times I've used them, because I detest paypal, they've worked fine.
ya +1 for moneybookers

I used them once, and I regret it and I don't want to do it again. You can't delete permanently you card number from this site.

tburger: So my friends – come to Poland, look for a BZ WBK bank and buy yourself an unpersonalized, 2 years valid prepaid debit VISA for one-time EUR 3 :-) (just kidding I guess transferring money from Germany to Poland would eat those EUR 25 pretty fast)
Well I prefer personalized and virtual, also from BZ WBK. It is even cheaper (0.25 EUR probably at the moment?) and have all advantages of above - 2 years, etc.
Personalized because it has greater chance for accept it everywhere (I've hard that some shops can refuse "anonymous" cards), and virtual because I have a need for credit card only when buying something by internet.

Interesting. Whenever I've used them I had to enter all my own information. Then again the only place I've used them was gamersgate and there is no moneybookers account log in involved. I suppose if you used their ewallet that might be different. Sort of like the difference between having a PayPal account and using the service as a guest.

I've also heard about shops rejecting impersonalized cards - but never actually came across such shop - on the other hand I don't have rich experience in ecommerce.
