Navagon: Well I doubt anyone who's able to post in this forum will be able to voice an objection against that*. Especially with the DRM-free patch in future. The only potential problem I see is that this is a fairly unheard of DRM scheme and hasn't been through quite the same rigorous testing as some DRM has. It might still cause problems. We'll see.

I'm just not going to buy into this until they walk the walk. I've seen promises of future patches before from other publishers and they've yet to materialize. If they prove they're going to do what they say, then I'll buy their games. So I guess it's an 18 to 24 month wait-and-see scenario for me.

Or just wait a month till there's a crack, then you can be sure you can play the game regardless of the outcome and then when they release the patch you can use that instead of a crack

bansama: It's already being used in several SEGA games sold on Steam, so you could always check the relevant forums over there to see if there are any possible Uniloc related issues.

Thanks for letting me know. I was under the impression that Sega were still using SecuROM and Steamworks for the most part.

They walked the walk with Football Manager 2009. So I don't see why they wouldn't do that here too.

Navagon, you're right. I did a little searching and found that out myself. So it looks like they've indeed walked the walk. In light of that, I think this game is back on my purchase list. Awesome.

I hate DRMs with all my heart.
But I have to say, if a company really has to use this kind of shit to not feel like it is being raped by bad, dirty pirates I could accept this....
Sega will just arrive second in releasing a "liberating" patch, pirates will arrive first at the game's release day one. If they think this is funny or just useful for anything, they can go on and make me laugh every time I finish a torrent....

Coelocanth: A much more reasonable approach for this kind of protection, but personally, I find this DRM is still not to my liking, so I'll pass until that patch arrives. I don't like the on-line, limited activation, revoke activations model. Yeah, I'm one of those people. The promise of a patch to get rid of it makes it more palatable, and would be acceptable, IF it happens. And I'm skeptical about that. Atari promised to patch the DRM out of Chronicles of Riddick and it's still there. I won't be picking up this game until I see that patch. If it does appear, then I'll be inclined to buy future titles with this type of DRM at release.

They patched it out of FM09.

As long as they release a patch that removes the DRM, I am happy, I just won't buy it until the patch comes out.

Its pretty crappy but its not bad enough that i wont buy the game.

Is that even possible? I thought all Steam games must use Steam's built-in DRM, no matter what.

They are smaller games, but Ben There, Dan That and Time, Gentleman Please! can both be purchased on Steam, but played without it by going into the steamapps folder and clicking on the .exe

Sorry if I missed it, but how exactly does Uniloc's Softanchor work? Does it install a driver like Securom that creates a vulnerability to the system? Didn't see much on their website other than it sends hardware profiles to know what kind of hardware everyone's using. Doesn't say if it's anonymous or not either.
