Starkrun: I pre ordered Duke Nukem Forever... the sales slip from 1999 faded to white... But i still have it next to my signed Megadeth ticket and drumsticks/guitar picks

Did you frame it?

Aliasalpha: Well I can definitely see where the stats for WOW come from, there's only one way to play it, how do you get stats for games that don't rely on a single server?

Xfire stats. www.xfire.com. Using the sample of people who use that program to track their useage more than meets reasonable defintions of ramdom sampling.

Hehe interesting when you miss-type links, that took me to a spanish site that I think was about metalworking
I know COD4 is huge and I know a lot of people didn't like COD5 for some reason or other but to say that one game is going to be the sole cause or even the major cause of so many high profile games being delayed is just mad. That or if it's true, its fucking awful business to run and hide for MONTHS because of a single shooter that probably doesn't cater to the majority of the PC market. Caters to the majority of the shooter sub-market absolutely, it would be truly mad to release another FPS in the same week or maybe month
Yeah, I thought that even Splinter Cell Conviction was coming out this year (like, late this year) and around E3 season they pushed it back to February of next year. Again, seems like COD Syndrome, where publishers are so afraid to release games now fearing they'll be forgotten among the whole COD bonanza. But if MW2 will be THAT good, then it wouldn't matter if those games would be released next year or not.
COD6 is not going to be a miracle product that hardens abs, whitens teeth and helps you score with hot members of whatever gender you go for. There's no question its going to do excellent business, possibley even incredible business but why in the name of fuck are games that don't compete for the same dollar being delayed?
What's next, "Oh my god, Peggle 2: Shinier, Flashier And With Prettier Colours comes out the same week as Dragon Age Origins! Bioware better change it's date quick!!!"?

It's actually Peggle 3, because Peggle Nights counts as a sequel.
Hey, the publishers like UbiEAMastersThesdaTHQ aren't the brightest people out there, and you know, once they see ZOMG ACTIVISION HAS CASH COW, light bulbs in the business department go off and they decide it's better to back off and let Activision make a ton of money... again.

Aliasalpha: Or better late than too early...
http://www.kotaku.com.au/2009/10/sega-delays-alpha-protocol-to-2010/
I knew something was amiss since it was 6 days after the expected release date and there was no gold announcement but I wasn't expecting quite this much delay. Not only delayed till 2010 but delated until the MIDDLE of 2010!
Oh well, there's no competition for my money next week then, OFP2 here I come...

Keep in mind.....
AC2, COD: Modern Warfare 2 and L4D2 are dropping in November.
We also have RPG and A-RPG City dropping these next three months.
DAO in November.
Borderlands, Torchlight, and Risen in October.
Divinity 2 in December (in USA).
I don't know when Venetica is coming in the USA.
Sacred 2: I&B just dropped over in the UK.
Plus, the Sony rep was completely smashing AP for what they felt were lack of RPG elements.
I think AP getting delayed to Spring 2010 is the best thing that could happen to that game -- especially given Obsidian's track record of having buggy games upon release (NWN2, KOTOR2).

Actually Ubi dropped AC2 back to next year as well, MysterD
Borderlands, Torchlight, and Risen in October.
I'm holding off ordering Borderlands as I have that feeling that Valve will just fuck us over with the release data again. Torchlight also sounds interesting but IIRC it won't hit major DD services until November so that it gets a 1 month exclusive on the developer's site =/

Console versions are still aiming for November 2009 -- and you can damn sure bet, they will probably sell well these Holidays in Q4.

Holy crap, it really HAS been delayed!!

Best to not rush the breaking of bad news I guess...
Ah, this announcement is sad but expected (especially after the "no comment" response on the forum to a multi-page thread on the matter). I was looking forward to this far more than the awfully generic-looking Dragon Age. Well, I guess there's always Borderlands...

michaelleung: You take their word for it. I mean, why would publishers EVER want to lie to you?

Time logged. Xfire tracks the time it's users spend playing games. Their stats are thus completely reasonable as a random sample.

COD5 wasn't well recieved because people are tired of killing germans in Normandy, and because COD5 was a $50 mod of COD4.

I'd rather wait 7 or 8 months for the game than several years for the completion mod.

That's exactly why I thought the delay was actually a good idea.
But now they're saying that it's to improve the release window - moving from a barren, empty year to a massively overburdened one. This is nothing short of retarded. There's no other word for the mental deficiency these publishers are demonstrating.
