So, that dead hard drive. I downloaded Seagate's diagnostic tools, let them run overnight, and guess what?

THE PROGRAM SAID THE DRIVE WAS FINE.

You mean all that crackling and whining it did while I was backing up the stuff on it was nothing? Augh...

Oh yeah. Today? I bought a spindle of double layer DVD+Rs for like $3. It had two burned ones at the top so I figured it wasn't anything. I popped one in the computer, and what do I find... but hentai. Japanese adult comics.

I'm laughing so much right now.

A "flea market". It's basically this huge lot where people from all around the state (and outside) come and sell used stuff. I bought it at this guy's place, he always has tons of CDs so I spend 15 minutes going through his stuff and the spindle was there.

Ducking ducks, was about to kill the Dark Brotherhood assassin as a level one character and takes his damn armor in morrowind - morrowind crashed.

So, this morning I turn on the computer, use the interwebs for five minutes, and the computer freezes. The hard drive access light is on.

I reboot.

"A DISK READ ERROR HAS OCCURRED"

Fuck. I went to do some errands and when I came back, I tried again. Same deal. So I decide to fiddle around with the SATA cables, use another port... and the problem is gone.

So it wasn't the hard drive... it's the motherboard. I think the SATA connector or controller is dying. Wonderful, at least I don't have to pay $200 for a new hard drive now.

I am the very foundation on which all awesomeness must be measured. It is a burden, yes, but, one I bear oh soooo awesomely.
