Here's what worked for me:

- I deleted everything out of my Steam folder except for Steam.exe and the steamapps folder.

- I then ran Steam.exe to do a fresh install.

- Upon starting Steam, an update was found for Aliens: Colonial Marines.

- I also had my download region set on Netherlands before I deleted everything in the Steam folder, but I'm not sure if this made any difference, as I tried switching download region to Netherlands previously with no effect.

The review is worse than the game, I think...

Well, I haven't played the game but the review is pretty shitty indeed.
On the other hand, I read some other reviews and they restated what I already saw from the earlier trailers (flick back to pages 1-2). Bland, generic, dull, [insert additional synonym].

Is this supposed to be part of the film franchise? If that so maybe i can tolerate the generic and linear gameplay as long as the story is interesting.

Wow... I didn't think it was possible, but this is getting panned worse than DNF.
I'm still excited to play it - but my wallet will not currently allow it. Will definitely buy when it is a bit cheaper... Which shouldn't be too long based on the reviews it is getting.

With the last failure of the AVP franchise, I'm waiting to see how it pans out.

I was so hoping this would at least be a half decent shooter, love the Aliens universe / franchise

Bizarre with the company behind the excellent Borderlands games can create such a turkey, apparently the single player was done by someone else and the multi was done by Gearbox. Still though, they should have done something special with this one. Imagine an open ended type setting on LV-426 similar to Borderlands with objectives scattered around on the surface and what was left of the facility after it was nuked from orbit.

Well, after watching that video, I've come to a conclusion. It's probably a lot smarter to watch Aliens and Spaceballs again, followed by yet another playthrough of AvP 2, than to spend $50 bucks on A:CM. >_>

TL:DR

Aliens: Colonial Marines is more than a disappointment. It's downright depressing. I can't say if it's the result of a lacking budget, rushed development, or sheer carelessness, but having the nerve to present this as a full retail game is inexcusable. It's simply not finished, and it certainly isn't worthy of being considered a legitimate followup to Aliens. As a story, it's inconclusive, riddled with cliches, and underwhelming. As a game, it's incoherent, insubstantial, and blatantly unconsummated. It took over five years for me to finally play this game, and less than five hours to feel nothing but a shocked emptiness at the thing I'd first downloaded with feverish anticipation.

I have this on my wishlist on Steam since it was announced, but it's a total crap :l
I will buy this for 5 € max, because I had a lot of fun with Duke Nukem Forever (I know, that game is trash but it was funny to play, at least) and I love the Alien franchise (I played also the latest Alien vs Predator, lol).

But man, this game sucks. A lot.
And the Wii U version seems a PSX game :l

You mean what you saw in that video up there? That was a joke, actually. What you saw there was footage from Aliens vs Predator 2. That game is 13 years old, and from what I've seen, you'd be better off playing that instead of bothering with "Colonial Morons".
