Leroux: What a pity that American McGee's Alice is owned by EA and EA will never be on G... wait, what? EA is on GOG?! 25 games? And that includes ...?

*salivating*

StingingVelvet: I doubt Alice will be here anytime soon since they are using the remastered version as a way to get people to buy Madness Returns.

Good thing is the original disc versions works fine right out of the box.
Actually, I just found out they also plan on selling the remastered version separately from the new game on different DD services (XBL and PSN at the very least). We could easily see the remaster show up here now.

I wouldn't say easily. Right now it's an origin exclusive on pc. And that EULA that drove people nuts would actually fully apply to the game.

Alice Madness scores a 7/10 on gamespot. The original scored 7.3/10 on gamespot way back in 2000. Watched the video review. Flaws were pointed out but it was still recommended. That's good to know. Too bad pc owners have to buy it digitally on origin only for remastered alice.
Just played the first hour or so... fun stuff. The mouse is almost completely broken by terrible response but if you go into the ini files and disable mouse smoothing and framerate smoothing it feels much better. Still, I switched to my 360 pad pretty quickly... it's mostly platforming and melee fighting, and the shooting weapons lock-on to enemies, so no reason to use a mouse really unless you're one of those PC gamers who insist a controller is blasphemy.

It's damn pretty to look at and has that same excellent style that drove the first. There are some poor textures here and there, mostly the ground, but there is so much on-screen it's forgivable. I have physx on low because anything higher caused stutter here and there, which is typical of physx on a single gpu. The FMVs are wonderful and unsettling, though they're annoyingly plagued by compression artifacts. Oh, and the game runs in 16:9 no matter what resolution you use, like The Witcher 2 and countless other games at this point.

Lot's of collect-a-thon stuff going on. Grab teeth to upgrade weapons and abilities, grab bottles for concept art, grab memories for story content. Nothing too hidden in the first hour but I bet it gets tricky at some point. You really need to switch back and forth from melee to shooting quickly, which can be disorientating, but you pick up on it. With a pad you use the right stick to change enemies, on keyboard it's tab like in WoW.

Good game so far.

I second this.

I'm about 3 hours in and stuck with the KB + Mouse (mouselook owns all). The default binds were junk as usual, but the game was playing quite smoothly after some tweaks.
It's about the same as the first alice in terms of overall quality (in relation to similar games of the respective eras). In other words, everything is passable, overaching design choices seem a little backward at times, linear, and the world design is FANTASTIC (but not the level design, which is just pleasant)

Only about 2 hours in though, reserving full judgement till I get the hobby horse.

I do miss my speedy mouselook when using a pad, but the benefits for jumping, movement and melee combat are hard to deny.

Holy crap, if it plays better on PC with a gamepad and it's a shooter, that kills the very reason I would want the PC version.

Oh well, I was probably going to get the console version anyway, unless somehow there's no activation on the PC version.
I don't need a game to remind that I have my problems. Altough.. some games are worth the insanity.
Well, there was probotector aka contra in PS2.. 5 levels. all hard. It was a bit addictive.
also, I hated one of my brothers when he died in that game and usurped all the good things.. Almost like diablo 1 all over again.
Who the hell steals rings and sells them to me in virtual money. I should have handed his ass in platter in front of his own face.

Mostly I have been drinking.. no wait. I have been playing crysis 2 with controller and without crosshair or aimassist I enjoy that game suprisingly much with those options.

It's not crysis one but still good.. was it me or was it everybody when that crysis 2:s quickwheel.. also known ass middle mouse button. that always got stuck.. or wasn't so accurate what it should have been.

Edit: Why must I edit so much. =) I thought that i made a new one

Edit2: alice could be a good game.
I would like to see a game which blends silent hill and fear in one ballsack. used to be alone in the dark, but it isn't.

Infact I would be happy with new silent hill.. if it isn't 5.

Wha? It plays better with a pad because it's not a shooter. There are weapons that shoot, but you lock-on to enemies like Zelda.

So the game is good and released and full of madness? =)
Also.. I always find myself attracted with girls those wield huge bloody knives.

EA made really bad PR for the PC version.

No pre-order offer, no demo, no remaster of the first Alice on PC.
Heck, they just bumped the game on Steam without giving users the option to pre-order it with 10% off.

I hope Alice will come to GoG

You could preorder it on Origin. They offered a few goodies. It appears EA is willing to lose some sales in hopes of getting more people to use their service.

I hope both Alices will come to GOG.
I've installed A:MR this morning, but as I got into the main menu and saw the button "play american mcgee's alice", I couldn't resist and started with the first part...

and of course, it was awesome! I've finished it in about 10 hours (on easy, well, I'm old, slow and my hands hurt ;) so after that I was "allowed" to start playing Madness.

the beginning was veeeeery slow (appreciate the tutorial though), but after a couple of hours I must say it's as wonderful as the first part... absolute must-buy for all alice lovers!
