I have an idea for the storyline if it takes place in the modern setting. It might not have to be totally epic or whatever, but something that connects to the player. What I have in mind is to loosely base it off the current situation in a certain country that shall not be named since I run the risk of being thrown into prison; where people are afraid to voice out intelligent and astute yet blunt observations against the government.
So it could be something like...a "seemingly" peaceful city, where people appear to live happily. The country is prospering, and social stability is very well maintained. The cost of it all - freedom. Freedom to express, to not be afraid of censorship. As a player in the game, you are not the "chosen one" or what not. You are just one of the millions of people living in the city, who happened to realise the seriousness of this political dominance when you stumble upon a secret that the government has kept from the people to assert its power. Could be anything, like putting on a facade of a welfare state when in actual fact the people are being "harvested" for cheap labor and what-not, the overall welfare being understated compared to what the government is really getting out of the industry. Maybe the government wants to slowly consolidate power for its own purposes in future. Or whatever. This is, of course, if we are to avoid crossing over to science fiction, which is difficult to avoid since science fict is always more fun. In many ways, it might even be quite similar to V for Vendetta as well.
Think about it, an average engineer who earns $3k a month, slowly rising to the top of the political ladder, and along the ways with many choices and consequences. Stage public speeches, create hunger strikes etc. Rise to the top of the political ladder, but combat is not completely unnecessary either - for instance, a jailbreak leading to a radical riot. Or, barging into the White House or whatever, threatening the president to reveal the truth to the public. Something along these lines.
Perhaps we might even tie in some terrorism conspiracy theories too. Though civilians are not prone to crime, external factors like terrorism may tie in too. Link these up to the government, and you may have a completely new set of rules to play in.

Exactly, perhaps not even the one who chose to act, but being prodded by friends into that direction.
Also, more NPC's ideas, those on the same line are from the same place of inspiration:
Johnnie "Rome" Daikan
Zenibeth / Benizeth (I want this one somehow, but the name sounds perhaps a bit too outlandish, better suggestion?)
Yubie / Ubes Malt
Elize Adim / Eric Ardenn / Richard Elicart (French accent needed)
Vivian D. / Vivianne D. (Also French)
Sonny / Sunny
Nin'to (Asian)
Eddie Quark
Mike Soff (wearing a suit, sitting in a bar, constantly arguing with someone only known as "Pear", or perhaps a girl named "Pomme", who wears a black turtleneck and jeans)
Perhaps a bar or casino named "Luck as art".

lowyhong: Zenibeth should be that person who pretends to be your friend and tells you what you want to hear, then try to usurp your position when you start getting recognized by some of the indigenous population.
Yeah, but a better name is needed, I somehow doubt it fits even in this multicultural/lingual world we live in.

I thought of a better name for her: Betty Easter
Yes it's strange, but certainly no more so than the real-world actress Summer Glau.

E.A. For Electronic Arts, so those were just names I came up with fitting the initials, could be just about anything really.
I later managed to find the slightly less ambiguous one:
John Riccitiello is their CEO -> Ric/Richard Elec-art/Elicart
and the second is Vivendi
Also "Ubes Malt", because Yannis Mallat is the CEO of the Montreal studio.
Both their names came from Wikipedia
Lew Cassard is another name I thought of right now.

More like your landlord who kicked you out after you hadn't paid rent for months, broken all her rules, lazed around and done nothing to find some work, tried to scrounge some money off of your now tattered reputation and generally acted like a good for nothing alcoholic.
But then, hey, that could be anyone. As nobody would tolerate that kind of shit. So maybe your version is better. It is fiction after all. :P

Heh.
You can model and texture.. does that include doing sprite work?
The graphical stuff we'll need are basically area backgrounds, UI, character portraits (those three are the easier ones, I believe), in-area animations (things like fireplaces and smoke from chimneys in the existing IE games), character sprites/animations (the most difficult one, I'm pretty sure, since the models are recolourable in-game, and therefore need a pretty specific colour scheme).
UI and character portraits has little to benefit from 3D work, the other I'm pretty sure are easier to do - at least partially - in 3D, especially area backgrounds where 3D can help with the lighting and shadows.
I'll send you a few examples from the original game (BG2, as that's what I use as base to build from, though I suppose PS:T, BG, IWD and IWD2 would work as well, as it's pretty much the same) if you tell me how to contact you, unless you want to extract the art from the game yourself using available tools.

Suppose I should start working on some ideas for this eh? Came up with these ideas the other day
Red Dawn the RPG (or something like that)
Set in Sweden, Norway, Denmark or Finland after the cold war becomes a conventional war. Not a single American hero anywhere in the game.
Small scale resistance army triggered by the PC’s relative being shot by Russian troops in a cutscene
Resistance begins to strike small targets, planting bombs and sabotaging vital systems. After a while they attract the attention of both the KGB who try and infiltrate them (have 2 recruitable NPCs after a certain point with a random chance of being a KGB agent) and MI6 who want them to perform more focussed missions that will help the overall war effort and help win their city back. Russian forces are a bit diminished because the action is behind the lines and the bulk of the Russian army is pushing forward leaving a light force for local pacification.
Ultimate objective will be to keep disrupting the Russians and pave the way for the NATO forces to roll in and take the town in a cool climactic battle with tanks, guns and cybernetic ninjas with lasers and tits.
Mission ideas
Recruitment drive: Go to local diner or equivalent and chat to patrons to try to gain a new recruit. Possibly have this as an option a few times to get cannon fodder NPCs
Sabotage: Infiltrate (stealth or disguise) a fuel dump and place a time bomb. Lots of talking but if fighting breaks out it has to be silent and very fast or there’s a major probably unwinnable fight.
Steal Information: As above but the theft of information rather than destruction
Attack Convoy: Place mines to destroy leading tanks and then destroy troop trucks. High risk mission but high value, might be the end of act 2
Rescue captured ally: Break into police station and bust out an allied npc before he can be transferred. High risk combat but avoids later breaking of the NPC and making missions harder
Raid for supplies: Steal a supply truck from a depot to provide new weapons and ammo
Spy: Similar to gather information but involves trailing an enemy agent and photographing his activities
Think of cool name for resistance group
Possible character classes
Jock: physical focus
Nerd tech and/or medical focus
Preppy: Dialogue focus
Hippy (useless like in real life? Dialogue focussed?)
Goths (preening whiners like most new ones are? Stealth focussed?)

I don't get the Summer Glau love. I may be a mild browncoat, but seriously, she isn't THAT extremely hot. Cute, yes, but not hot. Well, she is going to be in Dollhouse, so that's cool.
Anyway, back on topic. When will we see some sort of playable thingy?

Playable tech demo as soon as I manage to create SOMETHING that does not contain ANY BioWare/Black Isle art, sound, or script.
I.e. when you can walk around in the room I posted a map of earlier and a very similar one on the other side of the door (fantastically named "Room #2").
Whether that'll be internal or public I have yet to decide, but it'll just be a proof that I have (almost completely?) understood how stuff works and managed to make use of that knowledge, and much of it won't be the real art or scripts (if any, depending on what I've managed to get, lowyhong said he's good with 3D, so I'm hoping he'll jump on the train and model a few things).

I love the way that she can play a psychotic (or at least disturbed) person, a terminator, and just have that face without expressions :) Or she does have expressions I guess, oh well I just really like her at least, no reasons needed!
