As a PM system has yet to become available here, and we haven't traded personal contact information, this'll have to do.
I haven't managed to create anything playable yet (not even a tech demo to build on), but I did waste 15 minutes in creating a quick draft for a read-me file (rtf format, so far). Please to be givink comment.
I'm not giving out my various details (spambot defence) until we decide if and how to communicate outside GOG.
you should meet up in the GOG IRC

Miaghstir: and Aliasalpha, who <insert funnily idiotic snippet about Australia here>

...owns an All-You-Can-Eat Shrimp Barbecue joint in Didjabringabeeralong, Australia.
Sorry Aliasalpha, I couldn't resist ;-)
The project sounds interesting though. Keep us informed.

I'll try.
I was thinking of something about a koala and kangaroo ranch, but decided it might be best if he came up with something himself.
Miaghstir, I use the same username here as I do for gmail
The readme looks good, "Bunyip hunter extraordinaire" is probably a good title for me

Ooh you should, barbequeued shrimp is nasty, they go rubbery far too quick.
Small update:
Imagine finding yourself in a room like the attachment, without any memory of how you got there...
Hey, at least there's a stash-o'-goodies, and that's all that counts, right?
And Alias: how much coding knowledge do you have? Specifically concerning Python and/or LUA, the first because that's what the various GemRB scripts are be written in (how to interpret the various games), and the second because that's what used in all scripts for the IE games (non-interactive in-game scenes and just about everything else that happens).
Yeah, I decided to continue here instead of through e-mail, because the community might be interested in the progress.

My programming has mostly been confined to VBA scripting and very limited stuff with some game based languages, mosty with Operation Flashpoint and Neverwinter Nights 1 & 2.
Oddly enough that screenshot has given me an idea for a weird portal like laboratory thats been experimenting on people.
Can you post a couple of basic Python & LUA scripts so I can see what sort of thing they are?

You did get the other e-mail I sent with NPC suggestions, yes?
I'll send this one that way as well, so as to not post anything that may be copyrighted (I think those scripts would be difficult to copyright, but no chances taken).
Yeah I got the emails. The characters mostly sound a bit too fantasy for a modern game but we can surely use them somewhere.
The scripts look pretty simple really, not that different than VBA. As long as I can get a list of commands and we fully document any variables we make it should be fairly easy to code.
What are you guys working on?
'cause, you know, now EVERYONE will want to help

lowyhong: What are you guys working on?

Modern-day RPG, using the Infinity Engine (the one that powered Baldur's Gate and various other D&D games, as well as Lionheart [that's probably the most recent version of the engine, and the least documented]). Well, not IE per se, but GemRB, an open-source implementation of it.
Original discussion started here (you'll have to wade through a number of irrelevant walls of text though).

Modern day as in 'today', or sci-fi?

Fenixp: Modern day as in 'today', or sci-fi?

Modern-day, as in "20th century", or roughly "2nd world war era", as opposed to the "medieval fantasy" setting that all other IE games have been set in... I think.

I'm thinking today or within a few years either way, definitely not sci-fi or fantasy since its way too common
