Aatami: My god. This arrived this morning, and I completed it now (3:00am). I couldn't stop playing, I just had to see what happened next at every moment.

Funny, this was my reaction the first time I installed Half-Life 2 on my P4. Even though I couldn't finish the game in the first run because of its length :-P

Metacritic has a PC version listed with a release date of November 1. Hmmm....

taczillabr: MS killing the PC gaming is better for them (nothing is perfect, but it would be better), they happen to have their own platform and own exclusive titles for that platform.

They want to run the living room. These companies see closed systems in the living room as the future of computers and the internet on top of cell phones. The company who controls the most set-top boxes when it comes time for everyone to get their movies, music, games and internet in one handy box on their TV will make billions. Microsoft thing long-term and are devoted to this goal.
Of course, while they concentrate on this they are only inviting more and more lost sales on the OS side. With Mac getting more popular, I am not sure now is the time to remove Windows assets, like gaming.
What do I know though, I am sure they have dozens of geniuses working on these things. All I can say is I will never support an internet, service and account-based one box solution for all my media and internet in a closed system... not from Microsoft, not from anyone else. I'll be that weird old codger with an ancient PC he keeps running with rubber bands and duct tape.

taczillabr: Add that to a user base who think it's fine to buy X number of DLCs for $15 (yes, MW2) and pay more than $50 for new games, then the party is done for MS and their friendly publishers.

Despite what hardcore whiners say, the market accepts these things on PC. Sales of Modern Warfare 2 were very good on PC, and the $15 DLC for it has been in Steam's top sellers list since it released.

wth?! "Release Date: November 1, 2010".
There's also a rumor that Fable 3 is coming to PC. Microsoft changing over this past night?

Yeah, I didn't expanded it much in my last post, but you have the same view on this.
They are all about "the living room experience", put a DRM-box there and a TV, and live with it. I'm not too fond of it, and prefer to keep things customizable and moddable on a hardcore PC.
We can't predict like 5 years in the market, as it is right now and changes coming day after day. But someday I think they'll achieve this, their "perfect" experience will be released to the market and then non-fundamental aspects of Windows/whatever name as an OS will be removed.
About MW2, yeah, it's on top of the steam sales, that's why I'm worried too. Masses of players buying this $15 bullshit, and sometime they'll think "Well, I'm on PC to play this damn game only and its DLCs, why I don't go where it's meant to be, where it was really developed for and marketed for? Answer: the 360.
If MS one day wants to kill Windows as a gaming platform, they can. And they have their alternative platform already. And they evolve that platform to the living room (Natal). Don't know if Sony can or can't compete with them in this living room thingie.

PoSSeSSeDCoW: I'm not buying any more Microsoft games for the 360 until they restart publishing them for the PC.

Word is they're bringing Fable III to PC.
avatar
taczillabr: We lost Ensemble, Epic Games, Remedy, Bungie, etc etc which had their early titles all for PC and all feed (financed) by PC gamers. (And maybe we'll loose Raven Software, soon.)

And Halo: Reach.

I'm starting to think the Steam crowd is analgous to the Xbox crowd. And Microsoft loves Steam...

I'll believe it when I see it, but if it is true, it's great news.

That's be great to see Fable 3 and Halo: Reach come to the PC.
But, please bring Fable 2 and Halo 3 + ODST here too, please!! :)

Yep. There's no point in releasing Reach and Fable 3 without the previous games on the PC, it just dosen't make sense.
I'm interested only in Alan Wake but not the other two, anyway.

I'm a completest - give me them ALL on the PC. :P

There's no point in releasing The Elder Scrolls IV and Fallout 3 without the previous games on the 360 and PS3, it just doesn't make sense. ;)

Returning a bit to the topic. :)
I'm currently playing Alan Wake as well and I love it. There isn't really anything inventive in the game, but the way it's put together, the pacing and the narrative (excluding some odd moments) are just excellent.
I didn't have high hopes for this game to be honest, but it may turn out to be one of my favorite games on the 360.
BTW taczillabr
I would agree that there is little point in releasing Fable 3 on PC (although it seems it will be released anyway), but Halo Reach would be ok. It is a prequel to the series and since 1 and 2 were on the PC it would fit rather nicely.

Nice that you're liking the game, Remedy showed such a potential with it back when it was revealed.
To write in a clear way for you and Arkose: I'm not saying that there is no point in releasing Fable 3 and Reach and etc on the PC, it would be nice if they came back to the PC market.
My opinion, as a completist gamer, is that I see no point in having Halo 1 and 2 in my collection, but not having 3 and ODST. So, I prefer not buying them at all, than buying and end like missing 2 or 3 games of every series because some are only on the console(s).
This game is amazing. Alone in the Dark comparisons can't be avoided, since that game also focused on battling dark forces with light, but this is much, much better, and handles the whole "episode" pacing with finesse. The episode will end on a cliffhanger, and it will make you want to jump right back in and continue playing. Even the advertising is well done, with Energizer-branded batteries and flashlights and a Verizon phone whose logo isn't seen often. It makes sense in the context of the world, and it doesn't feel forced. The one major gripe I have is the combat. It's much too easy to get overwhelmed by a pack of enemies. Maybe that's the point, but it frustrates me to no end.
If you have a 360, pick this one up. In fact, this game made me realize what a fool I was for abandoning Microsoft's little white box.

taczillabr: And start saving your monies for the 8 DLCs it will get, ah the dear microsoft. :p

8 DLC? Hell yes! At least they're spacing out the time for when it comes out. Also, the game includes a voucher to get the first one free, if you buy the game new.

Unless you are living in Poland where officially there's no XBL and some bastard decided to take the voucher out of the box.
Still, probably gonna buy the DLC anyway since I love that game. I found it too easy though on the normal setting (excluding a difficulty spike somewhere in the 4th episode), but I'm playing through the game a second time on a higher difficulty setting and now it's much more entertaining ;)
Anyway, I just love how Remedy put everything together - all those references to American culture, the TV show, the local radio station. The Bright Falls mini series is also great and the additional materials on the website are brilliant - especially those fake forums comments - I love how Remedy used their own situation to expand Wake's story.
I though to myself the other day that if Stephen King would make a video game it would be like Alan Wake (with less shooting probably, but still).
I didn't have high hopes for this game before it was released, but now it's shaping to be one of my favorite x360 games, if not games in general.
