DCT: Actually it's a remake of a sorta remake since the original Larry game was a graphical version of Soft Porn Adventure also done by Sierra(back when they were just called Online) best remembered for having Roberta Williams naked in a hot tub with two other women on the cover.

I personally don't mind donating since if anything it will help encourage more Larry games

QC: In theory.

Given all the madness for the past few years between "Videogames are art" and "Videogames are Murder" I imagine a major studio revival of a largely sexually excessive game is unlikely. And I know that many games use sexuality and such, but the only game I've heard getting away with it without regulation was God of War.
Yeah but those are AAA titles from major publishers and also on consoles, the big bad press usually ignore PC and titles from smaller studios.

keeveek: This is one thing, but I think about it in other way. Even if all of these games WILL be made in future (and not like in next 10 years), if Double Fine Adventure be worth 3 million bucks? Remake of Larry, if it's going to be worth 500,000 ? I highly doubt it...

worth in means of "production costs" of course.
You also have to take account the time they are going to spend on the product and hoq quick they are going to deliver. Despite Larry 1 is a simple game, they need money if they intend to deliver till october 2012 as the estimation says. Employees aren't free.

Double Fine's original project was much smaller game with no voice acting or original music either. Voices and original music came into picture much later, when the project exploded.
Yeah, I didn't mean they should spend every penny on developement and should squeeze everything out of the project, but you know what I mean...

3 million dollar game is rather something different than 10,000 dollar game, for example.

Will we see any jump, vast progress? It would be difficult for indie devs to deal with such big amount of money, I suppose.
Some people I know are going to be really happy about this.

Me? Moderately so. I like this kickstarting trend here.

gameon: I've never understood the uproar about the use of sexual themes in games such as god of war. Its hardly anything.

I guess the first witcher game is the first time i've seen a developer get away with full female nudity (that forest elf woman). Was very surprising.

And how come there are several adult themed games made in japan? But here you get campaigns against minor things like the gta san andreas "hot coffee" minigames.
For the same reason Japan sells panties in vending machines. As an outsider looking in, it seems a lot of the time like Japan has very little issue with social constraints and debates that plague the U.S. and Europe. Pantie vendors, Hard Gay on TV, shows with grown men half naked in weird situations, and one of the world's lowest crime rates (though there seems to be a bunch of crimes with knives)
I am not pre-ordering because I'm not interested enough in the game.
I still hope he reaches his goal. I always fear that one of these well known developers from yesteryear is going to have a relatively cheap kickstarter project, and it's going to flop completely. That would be kinda sad and awkward for the developer

QC: For $100 they give you physical copies of the content plus a condom.
For $250 they give you 3 poker chips and a deck of cards.
For $1000 they give you a lithograph and a calander.
For $2500 they give you a big freaking banner.
For $5000 they make you a random voyeur stalker who protests sexial deviancy.
For $7500 they let your dog pee on Larry... or write you as a booze hound.
For $10000 they ship you off to meet Al.

Can't I just buy the condom separately? NO! BAD JOKE IGNORE!!!!!

I'm starting to wonder how many other people will get into this Kickstarter trend.
There are two more 'hidden' rewards. Read the description to the very end :)
Hm. 1000+ backers already and nearing $50k.

Not too bad actually.
Although its a remake, the description does say that they plan on remaking the whole franchise with a possibility of doing LSL4. I think its worth it, and will be contribuiting my funds towards the cause.
a remake of lsl1? i hope they get the money. i am also a 'meh'. if it was a new game, they would have my money.

i now await a brand new quest for glory game.
Pledged, although $100 for a physical copy of the game is a tad high
can't help but think this kick-starter is just a little amateurish (not the game, just the kick-starter).

i mean, failing to originally state whether its drm free or steam based, getting one of the reward tiers wrong. also make reference to iPhone, linux, mac versions, etc, but not setting clear goals when those versions will be made. just seems a little rushed. i guess they just assume theres enough lsl fans out there...

i also note that they have previously announced this project (without crowd-sourcing):

An FAQ is up on the Kickstarter page that answers many of the concerns voiced in this thread. Short version: this is only the beginning of much bigger things. Longer, more interesting version can be found here.

I don't get it.

"The problem is, Codemasters, the publisher that owns the rights to Leisure Suit Larry and sold them to us wants to see what we can do with the game first."

So did they buy the rights or not?

I don't know, but rights and licenses can be split and sold in many ways, shapes and sizes. And suits rarely do things simple, if they can help it... o.O
