IC Action

Cat felt the static sting shivver along his spine once more, eliciting a reactionary growl. But it was too little, too late. Cat's double-leaf fould the mark and the spell-slinger crumpled like straw, his body falling in concert with that of the now deceased archer's. Cat turned and strode aside Barnell, the ghost of a smile playing on his lips.

"Your turn.", he whispered as he stared at the lone standing member of the brigade.

OOC

Cat moves one square north.

Ut oh then... Brigade Warrior just made a huge mistake with his move. (Well, he has 5 HP left anyway so whatever..)

Just waiting on Barnell.
moves north east
Barnell and the Warrior have moved out of range from each other. It looks like it's up to Cat to deal the deadly blow, with possible help from Magic Damage. No matter, since Barnell pretty much single handedly eliminated one of the enemies.

Map Updated.

It is action turn 3: use skills (if you want), attack (if in range).

Barnell licks his wounds and cleans the blood off his sword.
IC Action

In spite of the the battering the brigade bull had taken at Barnell's hands, Cat took no chances. A wounded animal was the most dangerous kind, and this animal was wounded. Cat slowed his breathing forcing himself to stay relaxed and crouching slightly, hoping that the bull in his dismay would miss what was right in front of him. Letting the prey come to him, he sprung upward, lunging the dagger towards the opponent's breast.

OOC

Assuming it can be done, Cat will employ the Hide in Shadows skill as a precaution prior to attacking. No point in taking any unnecessary chances.
I cast Magic Missile on the Brigade Warrior.
Oops, calculation error. Hang in there! Edit: ok, fixed now, i accidentally calculated the Hide in Shadows bonus for the Bri. Warrior instead of Cat.

Harzhan casts Magic Missile on Brigade Warrior. d6 (6) + 1 (level) = 7.
Cat uses Hide in Shadows +25% block/dodge this turn. Attacks Warrior from a range of 0: 1d6 (2) + 7 = 9.

Brigade Warrior uses Seize, attacks Cat. Block failed. Seize succeeds! Cat cannot use skills or attack next turn. 1d6 (5) + 5 = 10 damage.

Warrior has 5-7-9 = -11 HP. Warrior is defeated. Brigade is defeated.

Congratulations, you have made it through the tutorial round without letting a single member of your party get knocked out!

Story update + awards + level ups to follow soon.

IC

Cat's inution had proven correct. The brawler was desperate. But he was also seasoned. Try as he might to be elusive, Cat still found himself constrained. But before any real damamge could be done, the spectral missile struck home and the bull slumped slowly to the ground.

Cat rubbed at his arms, the last vestiges of the brigade slinger's shocks still tingling upon his skin. Running a hand through his onyx hued hair he sighed and looked at his mates. Silently, they nodded to one another. Job well done.

OOC

Great tutorial, stoic. Thanks for taking it a bit easy on us. I'm looking forward to the next seesion.

Thanks a lot for the tutorial. I need to toughen up my warrior so he can take a better beating.

So cat what do you think about being the leader of this group? If its cool with Azarr.
So long as it's cool with Azarr, I'll do it, Barnell.

Though I see it more as a ceremonial title than anything else. I think this team will work well as a Tri-Lateral Commision. :-)

I think the leader is allow to make moves if someone missing or not able to play. I thought I read it in the rules.

Yes. It's primarily ceremonial to have a captain. The captain is encouraged to get everyone's turn orders together.

IC:

The King of Northbrook had pressing matters to attend to, but he sends his regards.

Lt. Davison, a young, brash commander with a fire in his eyes greets you in the Cobra Mess Hall.

"Excellent work, recruits. I am Lt. Davison, I shall be your cooperating officer. If there's anything you want to know, you just ask me. Any time, any place.

We have the Brigade intruders in custody. You have rightfully earned your reward. I am disappointed to have to tell you that the stores are currently... undergoing renovation, so the 150 gold we promised each of you would do you little good. Please accept these prizes instead.

[Each character receives 2 weapons slots [a 150 gold value each], increasing the amount of weapons they can carry to the maximum of 3. Each character receives Leather Body Armor (+1 armor) [a 50 gold value each] and a 5HP potion [a 40 gold value each].

"So, how do you feel after taking down the bad guys, huh?"

[Barnell has gained +10 base HP (a full level worth). Harzhan has had his maximum number of uses for Magic Missile increased to 5 (a level worth of new skills). Cat has gained passive ability: Sneak Attack: Close Ground moves you two spaces each time you use it.

"We have another mission coming up for you, a little tougher, though, so let me know when you're ready." Lt. Davison adds.

OOC: I am adding all of these to your character sheets. We just need to complete the level up process before you can embark on another quest. We can do that whenever you're ready. (Everyone picks new skills and improved stats, depending on class).

There's new stuff to learn, and the skills are undergoing modification so keep in mind that they will change slightly, but hopefully the tutorial gave you a basic idea of how it works.

"Harzhan has had his maximum number of uses for Magic Missile increased to 5"

I'm not sure if I'm understanding this correctly. Wasn't the maximum number of uses for it already 5?

And how does this level up process work?

I apologize for the poor wording.

Short answer: you know all those skills you had before? You now have all of them PLUS an extra 4 Magic Missiles.

Long answer: there are two numbers of importance when it comes to skills.

First, there's the amount of uses you already have for the skill (in the case of Magic Missile this was "1"). You can increase this amount when you level up, or through "training" such as you earned here.

Second, there's the maximum amount you CAN have. For Mage spells, this number is 5.

The first number increased from 1 to 5 due to your training. The second number remains the same - you can still only have 5 maximum.

In other words, let's look at your spellbook BEFORE this quest:

1. Arc Lightning 1/5
2. Magic Missile 1/5
3. Repel 1/5
4. Minor Restoration 2/5
5. Craft Minor Potion 1/5

Now, your spellbook AFTER this quest:

1. Arc Lightning 1/5
2. Magic Missile 5/5 (You can now use Magic Missile 5 times per quest).
3. Repel 1/5
4. Minor Restoration 2/5
5. Craft Minor Potion 1/5

If this is confusing, let me know, I'll try to explain another way... thanks for your patience.

And how does this level up process work?
Yes, I will take you through that.

The level up process allows each character to improve their HP/attack, and to gain new skills.

It works like this:

1) Each character gains 10 "stat points", which can be used to improve HP/attack.
2) Each character gains 10 "skill points", which can be used to grab new skill uses.
3) The "price" of buying new HP/attack/skill uses varies by class.

If you're ready now, I'll walk you through it.
