For those who don't know, the Adventure Game Studio community came up with their own PWYW (minimum $1.50) bundle of 14 games created exclusively for this bundle, proceeds going to Childs Play.

Has anyone seen any reviews of any of these games? Any "gems in the rough" so to speak?

I'm pretty sure they were all done using a single tool, for this charity event, on a short timeframe. I'm sure some are at least passable, but you should know what you're getting.

I've heard good things about Falling Skyward and The Rail.

I played most of them during a livestream. My favourites were the Rail (really interesting story), Ben Chandler (very Lucasarts-esque, and genuinely funny) Falling Skywards (although I got stuck very early on), Fragment (again, very interesting storyline) and RAM Ghost (a kind of Creatures/Sims hybrid built in AGS, kind of impressive). But generally most of them are pretty good quality, and most of them have really interesting stories and premises. You can't really go wrong.

The only ones I really disliked were 9 Months In because of glitchy sound and voice acing, and Red Volition because I had no idea what was going on.

So far I've played through Abner The Amazing, Fragment, Ben Chandler: Paranormal Investigator, Escape The Barn and Entrapment, and played around a bit with Zombie Attack, RAM Ghost and Retina.

I didn't regret checking out any of them but then again I'm used to playing AGS freeware games and I'm probably not very discriminate when it comes to amateur creations, so take it with a grain of salt in case you're more critical in that regard.

The one I liked best was Ben Chandler, PI because it's got a good soundtrack, voice-acting and it made me chuckle several times. The downside is that it's heavy on aussie jokes and in-jokes relating to the AGS community (Ben Chandler aka is one of the Bake Sale authors himself and he's Australian, and author Grundislav who's good-naturedly teasing him has his own series about one [url=http://www.grundislavgames.com/benjordan/]Ben Jordan, Paranormal Investigator, in the spirit of Gabriel Knight).

Entrapment and Fragment feature nice music and interesting short stories (a thrilling murder mystery the first, a cyberspace adventure the second).

RAM Ghost is some kind of Tamagotchi you have to keep happy by feeding it, buying furniture and things to play with etc.

Abner The Amazing has some good ideas but is a bit crude, not really a must-play.

Escape The Barn is a simple object-based Escape-The-Room puzzle, neat but nothing special.

Zombie attack and Retina have a rogue-like ASCII-based appearance, the first is a survival 'action'-RPG and the second a 'prison simulation'.

Anyway, none of the games I played through took longer than an hour to complete.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I tried Red Volition, too. I didn't complete it but it's worth checking out just for the fun of it. What's interesting about it is that it doesn't tell you anything with words and you have to figure out what's going on and what to do all by yourself. Everything seems completely alien (on purpose). Figures that it's some kind of JRPG combat simulation. ;)
