2012 is has been an age of wonders for GOG.com with so many great games coming to our catalogue already, so this weekend’s sale seems more than appropriate.

The sale this weekend may have a small number of games, but it is certainly chock-full of gameplay: [url=http://www.gog.com/promo/age_of_wonders_series]Age of Wonders I, II & III, the three games from one of the most famous and successful turn-based strategy series, are now 50% off for the rest of this weekend.

Age of Wonders in 1999 marked the beginning of a blood-drenched conflict between magical races, when humans destroy the fragile equilibrium that existed among Elves, Goblins, Undead, Orcs, Dwarves, and other magical races. Several elements combined to make the first game so successful: detailed depictions of mythical creatures; mixing empire building, role-playing, and warfare; and creating over 50 upgradeable heroes who could wield a lethal array of weapons. Age of Wonder is only $2.99 this weekend on GOG.com.

Age of Wonders II: the Wizards Throne continues the story of neverdying war between fantasy races with over 130 unique units such as steam cannons, airships, and mammoth riders. AoEII features well-polished 2D graphics as well as many more spells and campaign scenarios full of intrigue, action, and suspense. Age of Wonders II: the Wizards Throne is only $4.99 on GOG.com until Monday, February 20th at 11.59 a.m. EDT.

In Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic, two new bloodthirsty forces enter the world of AoE: corrupt Empire led by Phobius, and hellish demons, that breed within the Shadows. The third and final installment in the series features new races, new units, better graphics and AI, and completely new Shadow world introduced in the main campaign’s story.

Additionally, all Age of Wonders games come with map and campaign editors and multiplayer mode. Once you get into those, you’ll find there’s not enough hours in the day without some sort of wizardry. We’re no wizards, but this weekend’s offer is magical. Visit the promo page and buy the complete Age of Wonders trilogy for 50% off this weekend only

Bought these the last time they were on sale ... last summer? I've barely dipped my toes into AoW 1 since then. Too many games to play. ;)

I think I shall give it a proper try again after I got my adventure fix on.

gamebin: This is great~! Now, can we actually get the manuals for these games added? :-P

All games in AoW series are great fun, would love to see a new one in the future :)
Just FYI: I reported some spam (3 posts) in the 35 reviews on Age of Wonders' game page.
Is that enough to get it deleted?

Probably not. I reported some spam almost a year ago and it's still there.

Anyone else see that in the descriptions of AoW II & III that the GOG team called it "AoE II" and "AoE"? Typo or something else....

I chuckled. GOG and small typos go hand in hand like butter and biscuits. EDIT: ;)

AoW: Shadow Magic is actually not AoW III. It's more of a "stand-alone expansion" business, kinda like Crusader: No Regret, or Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood / Revelations.

AndyBuzz: I have little experience with turn-based strategy, only dabbled a bit with HoMM 3 and wasn't thrilled.

Is AoW - SM similar to HoMM gameplay-wise? Would it worth to someone that's not so excited about the latter?
AoW isn't a whole lot like HoMM games. It's more like Master of Magic. You bring a limited number of fixed strength troops into battle, rather than stacking unlimited numbers of troops in a few slots. You can split them up any way you want on the world map rather than tying them to heroes. City building and managing many resources aren't as central as in HoMM. You're also limited by upkeep costs, which aren't a factor in HoMM. Spells are more strategic than HoMM's.
Oh dear oh dear, first this AoW3 thingy, then AoE, and then Shadow Magic description stating only two new forces, among them a curious 'Empire' faction... There are 3 new factions in AoW:SM (nomads, shadow demons, syrons), Shadow Magic is not AoW3 (no such thing ever existed), and the whole series has nothing to do with Age of Empires.

PLUS - all three games are remarkable due to their Play-by-E-Mail (PBEM) community. Age of Wonders Heaven portal and its forum was/is a long-time home for such matches, which could easily last for several months each. AoWHeaven players are well-known for describing each turn they made in PBEM game in an extraordinary RPG fashion, which sometimes could be equally interesting as playing the game itself.

PLUS - all three games can be also played online effectively, due to the series trademark 'simultaneous turns' options. No more 'waiting for your turn' screens. Great fun, rarely beaten even by the best modern turn based strategy games. Highly recommended!

HELL. YEAH.

The day I have been waiting for!!

I found and joined GOGs because they had Shadow Magic and I was itching to find it and play it again. Not having played any of the other games in the franchise, I'll finally be able to experience the ENTIRE AOW series for the very first time!
I may be the odd man out, but I actually like all three games. Yes, even AoW2. They all have something to offer, and they all were well-worth the money spent on them.

I struggled to get into Age of Wonders. I'm not sure why.

Well I liked all three as well. It's just people are asking "If I could only get 1...".
