Instabuy for me.
Though calling it Age Of WOnders 3 might cause some confusion since "Shadow Magic" is commonly refered to as "Age Of Wonders 3".
Oh yeah! GOG is definitely one of the big boys when it gets specifically mentioned in the same sentence as the inevitable Steam release. Even if they did get the name wrong. >.>

Zeewolf: With Eador: Masters of the Broken World and a new Fallen Enchantress, this year seems to be pretty good for turn based fantasy gaming. I mean, wow.
Yeah, this genre seems to be gaining overall, with Warlock, Elemental and the in my opinion new genre king Eador:Genesis we sure cant complain anymore.
But I still will not ever preorder or "instabuy" any game of this type. The graphics will probably be blurry 3D blocks and the gameplay more simplified to appeal to the masses. Chances are that Aow:SM will remain prettier and more complex.
Might get it after the first half year of patching is done and if the gameplay is MORE complex than that of Shadow magic. No more dumbed down sequels for me.

From what I read on 'aow2 heaven forum', I have the impression the devs are well aware of their fan's needs and Triumph SHOULD know that modability is the greatest asset their game could have (in aow:sm the limit number of perks and factions and the frustration it has caused to modders, make me think that the 'potential' complexity will go all the way up).

edit : last news from aow2 heaven

"Historical day today, as our beloved Triumph Studios announced that they have secretely been working, for over two years already, on the development of the ultimate TBS.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, it is AGE OF WONDERS III!

Some of the features include:
* Develop your domain, with many classes having the ability to change terrain and climates to suit your needs.
* New styles of play are possible with the introduction of RPG style leader classes like warlord, theocrat, rogue and sorcerer, along with a wide selection of specializations.
* Command a variety of races. Pick your starting race and shape your people’s destiny using your leader’s unique skills.
* A brand-new tactical battle system renders each battlefield and siege in great detail; new rules include flanking and a massive set of special unit abilities.
* An epic story campaign with two playable factions; Choose the mighty Commonwealth Empire or join the Court of the High Elves, founded after the reunion of the Dark Elves and Wood Elves.
* Compete online in extensive multiplayer modes and scenarios.
* High replay value through random maps, difficulty modes and tools allowing user created content."

I just watched the screenshots on the official site. I'm burning.
Sorry for the spam euphoria but I will add a last thing :
The devs at Triumph are reading the forums of aow2 heaven, so if you have ideas or simply want to know what's going on, just get over there.

Well, they already posted some screenshots, and the game looks good enough for me even in its alpha stage ;-)
Ok that does sound pretty good and the graphics are beautiful, am more optimistic now!

I guess one of the regions for the boxed version will be their home country and which is the same as mine; The Netherlands. I do hope then that the boxed version will be a full version and not steamworks bullcrap. Lately quite some developers are using steamworks as protection and sometimes it's even combined with games for windows live.
Lol' Ive read somewhere, that a mystery investor in AoW3 is...

Notch! :D

orcishgamer: I'm not unhappy everyone is getting a new edition of a game that they dearly love but (maybe by PM so as to not derail the thread) can someone distill why these games appeal to so many?
Do you mean specifically the AoW games, are the genre they represent?

Mimo: Come over to the AoW forum and play a multiplayer game. For me personally, that is where the true joy comes from. I can't play solo anymore with the AI after seeing what humans can do in the same sandbox. :)
ard to at least: AoW3.
But do you feel the single-player is also worth it? I liked e.g. Starcraft and Diablo 2 even though I never really touched their multiplayer part, like the rest of the world did.

I'm just flapping my mouth, I haven't yet played any of the AoW games, even though I've had them for a long time both retail and GOG.
