Good to know, I might check it out. I remember hearing how worse it was than the original so I avoided it.

darthspudius: To a degree you're not wrong but whether you want to admit it or not PC gaming was at it's last gasp before Steam took off. The console market boom would of killed it for sure.
cw8: It might have contributed to the PC platform. But in no way did PC Gaming ever required saving or in danger of being killed off by consoles.. Niggles

Niggles: Thats my impression as well even tho u saw the odd article about PC gaming dying.... i never really saw signs of it among the console popularity The only way I see PC Gaming dying is when people stop working / studying on their computers completely. And desktop and laptops cease to exist.

cw8: Even at the very worst, PC Gaming would have degenerated into nothing but MMOs and F2P casual games when Facebook came about at its prime. Even so, the niche crowd would come out with games to suit the more hardcore fans of PC Gaming with or without steam, some people are just passionate about it. reaver894: updated graphic... ok thats nice.
Trading Cards...
Achievements...
Twitch integration...
If the later ones are subtle then ok but I hate this trading card and achievement shit
JohnnyDollar: What's the draw for achievements and trading cards? You think Valve implemented that to try and attract console gamers that are used to getting trophies and stuff? Or are these things actually coveted among the greater Steam gaming community? Trading Cards...

Grargar: Come on, admit it. Everything is dying. PC is dying, Microsoft is dying, EA is dying, Nintendo is dying, Sony is dying, Ubisoft is dying, THQ is dy- oh wait. Nevertheless, everyone loves using that word. The only way I see PC Gaming dying is when people stop working / studying on their computers completely. And desktop and laptops cease to exist.

Maybe it was a UK thing but PC gaming was extremely difficult for me for a good few years to the point I bought an xbox 360.

I got out of PC gaming during the "graphic card boom" years. This was when graphics cards were finally a breakaway product and every game wanted to push what was needed ("mip-mapping! trilinear interpolation! real-time radiosity!"). A top-notch card one year ran games like shit the next year. So rather than play the hardware escalation games I went over (or back) to consoles, where I knew I could plunk the game in and play it. Now that the card wars have settled down and a lot of games aren't requiring render farms to run decently, I finally felt like I could come back to PC gaming like it was when it loved it.
As for Steam and its adherents, I'll say this - if it was indeed all that was available in the realm of PC gaming, I'd have given it up for good. Just because some people see a messiah doesn't mean others don't see a devil.
