Is it possible to see this game on GOG anytime soon? It was a great game and still holds up well even up to today. It was personally one of my favourite 4X games. Master of magic and SMAC are awesome games but they don't quite fill the niche of AOE 2. Are the rights for this game still obtainable? After all, GOG is only selling the game and doesn't own the intellectual rights to the game right?
Pfft. Nobody wants AOE 2 around here.

Seriously, that would be an insta-buy for me. I would also like the Star Wars clone, too.

A simple forum search followed by bumping one of the longer AOE 2 threads would have been in better taste, though.

AoE 2... I dont want that one,

I want the original, That game was a turning point in my choice of genre.
e=mc2
"how do you turn this on" was weak lol compared to "big daddy" :D we want the first one :D
Is there anyone in the world that doesn't think that game is the best thing since sliced cats?
The funny thing is, in my country it's much easier to buy AoE 1 + exp , AoE2 + exp than AoE3 ...
That was a really fun game with a great forum and playing community. New strategies came hot and heavy every few days, along with the recorded games to show how they worked and various counters shortly thereafter. It was really action-packed and fun, and I loved the vibrant, colorful game world. I spent many very happy, fiercely competitive hours with that game and would love to play it again.

Same in the US. We have cheap game bins at local office supply stores, and they always have AoM gold, AoE 1 gold, and AoE 2 gold for 5-10$

Sorry about that, I'm new here and although I know how to use the search function, I'm unfamiliar with the ones here. The searches I turned up found individual words instead of all of them as a group. I didn't know AoE and AoE 2 is very easy to acquire in other countries. Although that begs the question, how many other old game on GOG can you find in your country? Over here, old games are very. very, very hard to find (if at all) and more expensive than it's GOG counterpart (about 8-16 US more).
Hello fellow local. Welcome to GoG!

Yeah, we are all hoping for AOE2 to join the ranks of GoG. Personally, AOE2 is one of my favourite games. We just have to wait patiently for it.
AOE 2 is a great game,,but it is still in print and you can get it and it's expansions along with AOE1 and it;s expansions for less then ten bucks new.
I have no problem with it being on GOG, but I would rather that GOG feature a game that is harder to get.
To me, especially for the prices GOG charges, the fact that you can get older games elsewhere is nearly irrelevant. GOG's tuning of the games to work in windows environments with zero fussing about or research necessary on my part is one of the best things about GOG. Their archiving games so I can get them later (and, I assume, updating them so they're ready to rock and roll through OS updates and changeovers) is another bit of gravy.

Finally, and the main reason I came to GOG -- GOG's model of no DRM and rescuing great games from oblivion is such a worthwhile thing to do that GOG is going to have to really screw up something fierce -- just fierce -- to make me not try to get every old game I really want through them instead of any other way.

Further than that -- GOG is going to have to really screw up to make me want to buy brand new games again, at all.

I agree with you. I have some old classic games on a disc (like Homeworld) but I would like to see them on Gog for several reasons.

1. compability with modern systems
2. wide access to the masses ;-)
3. free goodies + great community

So yes, it would be great to bring Aoe1 and Aoe2 on gog

No prob. The search function isn't very functional.
