It will never come, but I don't see that as an issue. The games are still very easy to find and for super cheap brand new.

You're right; FAT32 is restricted to 4 GB, FAT16 is the one that's restricted to 2GB.

Really sad. Does anyone know how to play this good old game on an Windows 7 (64Bit) machine? My solution with a virtual XP machine with midi mapper doesn't work very well. System crashes, laggy mouse, graphical artifacts, asynchronous sounds... It drives me crazy.

What is the problem you experience on W7 that lead you to run it in a virtual machine in the first place?

Since GOG tweeted a big publisher was coming and it was a famous strategy game I immediately thought of MS and Age of Empires (plus expansion). Well, not this time... Still having Team 17 is nice.

Strange, here on Win7 I can play it fine, sound and music OK. The only problem I got is that weird colors glitch, alt-tabbing and other solutions don't fix it for me.

Find the AoE executable and select it to use only 1 processor core.

You could try using w7ddpatcher on it if you haven't already - download, extract, run, click 'patch' then browse to the Age of Empires executable.
Once you get the "Patching complete!" message, try running the game, hopefully the problem will be fixed.

Turn of Windows Aero or use an Explorer.exe killer when starting up the game, then when back to windows turn up explorer.exe again.

Quoting a couple of people who helped me out with the same issues in Red Baron 3D:

"Well for the Psychedelic colors in single play this works for me running win7
Right click on desktop, click Screen Resolution, now leave this window OPEN or minimize it, start game should be fine."

If you don't want to do that every time, try this:

"As to the graphical psychedelia/corruption of the menus, the fix is to close down explorer.exe. However just going into Task manger and doing so closes down your computer. The thing to do is to make a batch file that closes down explorer so you can play the game, and then let's you restart explorer when you are done. You can also instead use it to start one of the game [launchers]. I also use this batch file to start Diablo 1 and Starcraft 1 on my Win7 machine.

To create the batch file, open up Notepad and paste in the following:

taskkill /f /IM explorer.exe
start /w orion95.exe
pause
start explorer.exe

Then save as a batch file (.bat) not a text file. "

Well, Steam just released AOE3 so it certainly is a possibility that it could be made available via GOG.

Ryz0n, representant of MS on Steam said that Microsoft is no longer supporting AOE1 and AOE2 and there are no plans for redistributing it digitally in future. Same for Age of Mythology, sadly.

AOM is an awesome game and I'd love to see that on GOG over AOE.

$19.99 for AoE3 is a joke, the worst game in the series. I like the asian expansion and like that it's the complete version, but still I'd buy it for $7.50 or less.

AoM is okay, but IIRC Microsoft does not sell cd-keys for both the game and expansions anymore, thus it might not be legal for them to sell both titles. Or sell both as SP-only.

Killing explorer manually is boring, a .bat does it, but w7ddpatcher does it even better.

That thing of opening the screen resolution window and alt-tabbing, does not work for me.

2 problems out of 3 resolved, colors fixed, and random crashing when the music changes from a track to another. The third problem I have might be related to the engine, it corrupts savegames when I save in the middle of an ongoing battle... I have to save when all military units are standing still; I don't remember if back in the day it could be saved in the middle of a battle or not.
