If either of you guys (or anyone else) want to get a head start on character creation, here's all you really need to know for now... there's not much else to it!
You get to pick any 4 of these "skill fields", and can take any actions that fit within them. More info later, but if you feel like thinking about it, take a look:

Crossbow CBW Weapon: Mid-range missile, sharp, one-handed
Cunning CUN Cleverness, shrewdness, improvisation
Dagger DAG Weapon: quick, short-range melee, sharp
Darts DRT Weapon: quick, short-range missile, sharp
Divination DIV Knowledge magic
Druidry DRU Forest magic
Dual Daggers DDG Weapons: Close-range melee, sharp, requires 2 hands
Elemental ELM Magic that commands the natural elements
Enchantment ENC Enchantment magic alters mental properties
Exploration EXP World science (cartography, survival in the wild, navigation, etc.)
Great Axe GAX Weapon: Upper mid-range melee, sharp, requires 2 hands
Great Sword GSW Weapon: Upper mid-range melee, sharp, requires 2 hands
Halberd HLB Weapon: Long-range melee, sharp, requires 2 hands
Hand to Hand H2H Hand to hand combat, martial arts
Illusion ILU Illusion magic distorts the perceptions of others
Leadership LED Provide guidance, form tactics and inspire others
Longbow LBW Weapon: Long-range missile, sharp
Longsword LSW Weapon: Mid-range melee, sharp
Machinery MCH Mechanical science
Mace MAC Weapon: Close-range melee, blunt
Necromancy NEC Necromantic magic offers power over life and death
Perception PER Enhanced ability with all five senses
Priestcraft PRI Divine magic
Psychology PSY Mind science
Quarterstaff QST Weapon: Mid-range melee, blunt
Shield Mastery SHM Combat skills involving shields
Shortbow SBW Weapon: Mid-range missile, sharp
Slaying SLY Special abilities used against various forms of monsters
Sling SLG Weapon: Mid-range missile, blunt
Stealth STE Swift and covert movement
Telekinesis TLK Magical movement of objects or people
Telepathy TLP Magical communication with the power of the mind
War Hammer WAR Weapon: Close-range melee, blunt
Zoology ZOO Animal science, including communication with animals
