I think doing a good adventure game is a lot more difficult than doing a good FPS/RPG. Because the "gameplay" of such games must be made really thoughtful, because if you screw up, you screw up big time. Basic FPS mechanics are simple and work most of time, because the very concept is good.

Adventures, in the end, need a very good narrative to work. Even a good story doesn't really cut it anymore. The dialogues and the way the story is presented must be good also. LucasArts was the master at this during the DOTT/MI time. I don't really enjoy adventures like I used to, because they don't offer me anything anymore that I can't get somewhere else on top off a solid game. Most often a RPG. They often have a lot of adventure elements(dialogues and item puzzles) combined with the benefits of additional gameplay elements.

Creating a good adventure is probably the hardest game to make nowadays.

(Except of course, you don't like the "other" gameplay elements, than it's easier to like an adventure game)

For me, one of the best adventures I played in a very long time was "LA Noire". Because it wasnt "pure bread".

The game's pretty much a parody of fantasy conventions, give it a chance, you won't regret it, especially if you like the adventure genre.

I second that. The concept is (probably intentionally) conventional, but I think everything is done really well, and I greatly enjoyed the game. The fact that it is one of the few games with great German audio/text might have helped as well ;) (It is one of the very few games I actually played in German)

Topics like this are pretty much a proof that the genre is dead/almost dead. It's the same thing with PC gaming. PCs are not designed for gaming, and game sales show it. I would be very happy if most developers would switch over to consoles, because there are some titles on PC that I still would like to play on my TV, not 20 cm from a monitor.

Noone prevents you from hooking your pc to TV..

Yeah, everyone loves 10m long cables going across their flat. I have xbox and PS hooked up to my TV. Besides, I like to play my games in HD not some monitor resolutions.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but every single pc game released in early 2000s till nowdays has higher resolutions than any ps3 or xbox360 game. Your HD on consoles is a joke - console games have low resolutions, small draw distance, poor or no antialising etc. I'm not a console hater, I'm just saying. Your fancy ps and xbox have dated hardware and the HD is simply a marketing trick. When I started using ps3 this year and run Uncharted 2 as my first game I was shocked how bad the graphics were compared to modern pc games.

Well, it makes me sick. People you are the reason why PC gamers are so badly received. Please, show me at least ONE, one PC only game that is prettier than Halo 3 on xbox 360. Please, show me some arguments. I don't want to hear some empty talk here.

Pretty much every AAA pc game looks better than your Halo. I'm sure even Grim Fandango (1998) looks better with D3D on (behehe). Btw, how is that Halo game playing itself? (for the lunatic - it's a rhetorical question, you don't have to answer it).
