As no one ever has seemed to mention the dig in this forum I just had to ask if its any good (just bought it from steam for 2 DOLLARS!!) It seems to have an epic feel and a cult status

It's been mentioned here quite a few times. And yes, it is very good. It's the least typical LucasArts game of all LucasArts games (if that makes sense) -- for one, it's not very funny and it's rather slow and meditative. It does feel very epic, yes; essentially, the overall theme is archaeology on an alien world, gradually uncovering how it worked and what went wrong (kind of like Rama). And it's got the most beautiful VGA backgrounds ever.

One thing you should know about this game is that there is one occasion (well, five, but they are identical) where you have to use alien machinery and not just click, but hold down your mouse button over the thingy to make it work. As far as I know, it's the only instance of something like that in all of LA's repertoire, which explains why I have gotten stuck on it in both of my playthroughs (and felt like a complete idiot the second time).

i myself was recommended to play the dig some time ago by this forum. it is indeed a great game although the end is a bit silly. 9 hours tough of great adventuring fun. and i barely used walkthrough (still had to as i spent an hour without any progress and it was getting on my nerves)
- saw your post
- figured i'd see what all the fuss was about
- went to steam and checked it out
- now i'm 2,39 EUR poorer, but one sweet looking game richer! :)

looks great, thanks for the heads up!
It's another great game from Lucas Arts. It is the more "serious" game from Lucas Arts.

it is wonderfull to explore the universe
It's pretty good, but I preferred Full Throttle :)
i never could decide which was better among the dig , loom and full throttle
Yea, finished The Dig for the first time a year and a half back, it is really good.
I think its Lucas Arts best adventure game. The puzzles actually make logical sense, the story is interesting and the art style is very nice.
eh - how do i enter any kind of menu and save?

If escape doesn't work, try the function keys (start with F1.)

It should do it even when the screen is full size.
