I would really like to add my GOG games in my Steam library, as non-steam games.
But when I do it (for example with Duke Nukem 3D: Atomic Edition), it only adds as a DOS box, and when I open it in Steam, it just open an "empty" DOS box.
Did someone know how to add a GOG game in Steam library, in a way so the shortcut works?

And sorry for my bad English.

Hang on a second I will just have a play with it and see if I can get it working. The problem is that it needs the -XXX extension after the shortcut with the proper variables to run whatever game, in my case Darklands, but Steam just adds it as just the EXE

Aside from the neat library Steam offers and possibly having the friend list available is there any other reason people do this?

JMich: Here you go. Bit of tweaking, but possible.
Gah these forums are buggy, when I posted your message wasn't there, even after I refreshed. Anyway, I see what I did wrong, I was using the target variables in Steams target box instead of the start in one.

If they use Steam otherwise a lot, I guess it is a reminder for them what games they have, e.g. so that they don't buy them again from Steam.

I've e.g. activated all my Humble Indie Bundle games also on Steam, not so much that I'd like to play them through Steam client instead of using the DRM-free standalone installer version, but more as a reminder to myself that I have those games too.

But I couldn't be arsed to manually add non-Steam games to the Steam list though, but maybe those are the motives for some.

Well, Steam aside from in-game chat, Steam also offers an easy way to make screenshots and upload them on the net if you'd like to share. Also, you get pinning / latest games played trough Steam and ... Really, quite a bit of stuff.

Thank you very much! It works - except from the icon. Are there a way to add the real icon? It is not crucial for me, but nice to have the real icon. I try to add the icon via Properties --> Choose Icon (in Steam), but that dosen't help.

For the reasons you mentioned, I furthermore prefer to have all my games at one place, so I don't have keep track of several folders, places etc.

Depends if you use grid or any other layout.
