Tarm: But I like nice graphics and Boobs. :P
Could live without a lot of the marketing though.
lol well, I love em too. But bear in mind it's one thing to have nice graphics and boobs, a quite a different one to have ZOMFGRAPHXNBOOBS!
I don't know much about console gaming and modern games in general, so maybe someone will enlighten me:

what about the genres that were once exclusively PC-centred: RTS, Turn Based Strategies, adventure games and stuff? Do they make this stuff on consoles? Or did they drop it altogether these days? Or maybe, if your predictions are true and we'll see a drift off PC market, what will stay will be exactly those types of games, slow and tactical, mouse-centred?

Maybe such segragation would be better overall, there's nothing wrong i think for the mainstream to focus on consoles. The new PCgamer subculture playing indies/strategies/adventures will arise :) Then if you'd like some more flashy bigbudget action then you buy a console. Underground music doesn't fill stadiums, independent movies aren't screened in the biggest cinemas and do not score oscars. I mean what's your problem here Stinging Velvet? You'll be playing some cool shiny console.

And BTW I think we'll still have Koreans playing starcraft 100 years from now ;)

StingingVelvet: I meant general PC usage. I could see real PC systems in house dropping like flies while people switch to tablets, set-top boxes and other closed systems.

Navagon: I was predicting an upsurge in global computer usage as developing economies grow. But who knows? Maybe most that only want the internet will skip desktop PCs entirely?

But yeah, I don't really know what's a sound prediction when it comes to the future of the PC. I certainly don't think that many of these claims that we'll all be using tablets holds water. Tablets are only really advantageous in that they're portable. If you're stuck behind a desk then the advantage is lost.
Well they will certainly be around a long time at work, I just don't know about personal PCs.

I just realised that what I truly want is for the majority of games to be centered around ground breaking graphics and boobs.

In a way, I suppose it's like the home phone and how that's being phased out. I'd argue that the fact you can do more with a desktop will ensure greater longevity. But your average person won't really give a shit about that.

I guess we'll just have to see what the future holds.
