Delixe: It's more Activision's fault though. If you buy a studio known for fantastic racing games like Metropolis Street Racer and Project Gotham Racing then you get them to make racing games. You don't farm them out making licenced Bond rubbish. Activision could have used them to produce a multi-format racer to compete with Need For Speed but were only interested in the usual FRANCHISE, FRANCHISE, FRANCHISE. I'm not too worried though, i'm sure there will be a new UK studio in a few months and they might even end up as EA Partners.

StingingVelvet: Well that's certainly true... plus they didn't market the Bond game at all.
There was a new Bond game? Seriously, when did this happen?

Like 3 months ago... lol. If you like Gears of War style cover shooters it's actually a decent game for like $10 or so.

Delixe: It does seem they are rapidly running out of studios. People often complain about EA's actions in the past but Activision have taken it to a whole new level. They buy studios and almost immediatley start downsizing them and farming them out on projects they are not suited for. Do Raven games even exist as an entity anymore? I was under the impression there is nothing but a skeleton team there doing COD map packs.

StingingVelvet: That was reported once, but recently it has all but been confirmed they are working on a new Bond game to go with the 2012 movie.
AFAIK they were also one of the studios mentioned that was propping up the corpse that is Infinity Ward for the next CoD game, alongside Sledgehammer.
It could have been worse.....

... they could have been put on another CoD project.....
This is why I really hate Activision and why I am refusing to buy any games from them period. I hope Bizarre finds new life as another studio and other companies who try to get bought by Activision never make the same mistake. Take Two may get bought and I hope they realize they shouldn't let a corrupt corporation purchase them.

Yeah, that's exactly why I feel more sorry for those at Raven who didn't lose their jobs than those who did. It's a sad end to a studio that could have shone had it not been for the heavy controlling hands of both Activision and id.

If you ask me Kotick is burning this particular bridge as a means of focussing his attentions on Blizzard. It's a self-milking cash cow that will let him focus on business dinners and sexually harassing his air crew.
NOOOOOOOO, Geometry Wars 2 was the best game to play while... well you know!

Blur wasn't a bad game but it was a mess according to anyone who had the misfortune to play it.

It was a good game for full price. It should have been better but then acivision don't really care about quality.

Also calling it a gears style cover shooter is a bit harsh for a game that had a stealth mechanic, driving and some minor puzzle sections

I actually heard some praise for the game. I'm not sure why it suddenly became a stinker in everyone's mind.
Nor can I since its easily the best Bond game ever made and the only one that really took advantage of the licence to create something special rather than a generic shooter with a small sprinkling of bond salt

*cough* Goldeneye.

Ever played it WITHOUT the special nostalgia glasses? It was a generic shooter with bond sprites. Still an achievement for a machine as pissweak as the N64 (that and the muliplayer was probably the reason it was so popular at the time) but nothing special beyond that

Sure I did back when it cost me £50 in 1997. It was a colossal amount of fun 4 player and it was very unique for the time. It's easy to look back on it now and wonder what all the fuss was about but back then multiplayer was usually 1v1 or Saturn Bomberman. Goldeneye was fantastic.
Yes but 4 player multiplayer deathmatch is about as far from the bond licence as you can get.

Timesplitters, which was a complete ripoff, was one of the most popular PS2 shooters.
