An insider look at Activison's view on the franchise and its plans for the future.

So COD is now all about twitch button presses and generic gameplay? I thought it was always that was to some people......perhaps giantbomb is sheltered from the rest of the world?
So what Activision are saying is just like Guitar Hero they will milk the franchise until the punters are well and truly sick of it then they will simply retire it.
YES

HELL YES, FOR THE LOVE OF SWEET JESUS AND ALL THAT IS HOLY

KILL THIS FRANCHISE, THIS SINGLE RETARDED FRANCHISE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR SO MANY RETARDED GAMES AND SCREW-UPS THIS GENERATION

CAWWADOOTY NEEDS TO GO DOWN JUST LIKE GUITAR NOT-SO-HERO
Id' rather they kept going with COD.....not so much for the games but so they don't move on to doing it to another franchise.

They need another franchise first and the closest they have to that is Prototype which didn't exactly send the buying public wild. I suspect this is why they jumped into bed with Bungie hoping they will deliver another Halo.
They're going to suck console gamers dry with it, then when it dies they will launch an MMO type service for it on the PC. That's my guess.

Uhh... you seem rather passionate about this. Forgetting Call of Duty and Guitar Hero even exist isn't really that hard. I've never really played either of them. I tried Guitar Hero at a friend's and thought "I like DDR more". Call of Duty, I couldn't give a damn. It was pretty much what I thought it would be, largely unappealing. There will also always be "retarded games" and "screw-ups". That was true then and it's quite possibly more true today. Kill a shitty or generic game franchise and another will take it's place. I mean, if a franchise is generic and uninspired, it's even more likely that killing it will just have something else replace it.

It's not Call of Duty that's responsible for the flux of samey war shooters. Gaming is mainstream, and there's not a thing any of us can do about it. People will eat stuff like this up in droves, it sells and they'd be stupid not to churn this stuff out. GOG sells plenty of games that are more our style. Heck, good games today aren't extinct. There's just a lot of crud to sift through. It's not worth your time going CAPS LOCK over something like this.
It's sad when games like Singularity don't get any promotion from Activision, because it's all about COD COD COD.

I still remember when the first one came out, it blew me away. Now I can't even stand the name.
Battlefield 3 will put Call of Duty in its place this November, so no worries.
I'm thoroughly sick of the damn games. I really didn't want to get Black Ops but when all your mates get it and play it all the time your only choice is to get it and socialize or miss gaming with them for 6 months.
Surprise, surprise when I did get it, it was just as rubbish as I suspected it would be. The single player was nothing more than a sequence of "Isn't this cool?" set pieces, the game engine is hideous and the textures are the typical muddy muted colours. The multiplayer would be good if it wasn't for the usual lack of servers (console) and constant host switching and randomly kicking out members of my party in the lobby or just before the map loads. Then of course there's the wonderful factor when face to face with someone of connection speed determining how many of the bullets you're shooting are actually registering on their end (so it becomes a kind of connection speed battle more than skill.) There's nothing worse than putting a whole clip into someone, having them kill you and then on their kill cam, seeing you fire 2-3 shots.

Here's hoping Brink and Battlefield 3 will give my mates something to chew on (though I might just forget my mates and get Battlefield 3 on pc) I'm actually beginning to consider giving up on them and getting back into pc gaming :P.

Im looking forward to Brink, Dead State and so many other real games. But i do enjoy being the scripted event hero of a call of duty singleplayer run too, at times. Gaming is mainstream, idiots who flock to the mega movies call themselves gamers, and the industry caters to them.
Interesting thoughts.......I wonder what will be the next COD? (ie BIGTIME received title that eventually goes generic and crappy?....Halo maybe? I know Halo has like 5-6 games so it's getting there at least.)
"Activision doesn’t always seem to get the credit it deserves in terms of innovation in my opinion"

Er yeah, maybe that's because you guys constantly recycle the same thing over and over again and are only concerned with titles that you can turn into a long running series. You think that might have something to do with it?

It won't be Halo as that belongs to Microsoft and their own 343 Studio is working on a Halo game. Bungie are reportedly working on a *sigh* MMO for Activision.
