soulgrindr: the mechwarrior license seems so horrendously completely messed up that the odds have to be pretty low.
Then again, with that new company trying to make a new mechwarrior game, maybe they'd welcome a deal splitting the profits with activision.

Even the new one's getting tangled up in potential lawsuits over mech similarities in the intro clip they showed. The whole mech scene is one legal nightmare because they all insist on creating such bloody similar mechs. Get some creativity FFS! It's not even like the old designs were even much good, so there's no excuse.

I'd love to play Mech2:Mercs... but I've heard it's a bitch to get working.. plus there seem to be a billion versions, all with different flaws.
So, let's just get Interstate '76 instead. It's mechwarrior with 70s muscle cars and funky music... what could be better!

I couldn't agree more, bring us Interstate '76!! Hopeful!

I'd love to see a working PC version of Activision Anthology. Also, the various Quest games with up-to-date DOSBox support.
The Coktel Vision games (Especially Woodruff & The Schnibble, criminally underrated.)
Betrayal At Krondor (!)
No One Lives Forever 1&2
The Quest games
Swat 3&4
Nobody want's Return to Krondor? It wasn't bad. It wasn't bad at all!
I wouldn't hold out hope for Mechwarrior. FASA are now owned by Microsoft.

No, FASA's out of business. I think WizKids owns the Battletech IP.

WizKids appear to only have the rights to the tabletop game. Microsoft own the video game rights. At least that's what the wording of this article seems to indicate.

I found it at a thrift store, but I'm not playing it 'til I get Betrayal at Krondor first.
Anyway...
-I'm all for MechWarrior 2 making a resurgence and working on modern systems, but that'll be IP hell for sure.
-Heavy Gear II would be a safer bet on the IP side of things, I think...but can they get it working on modern systems? I would definitely buy it again if it means getting the damn game to work on my flagship machine.
-Battlezone, please! But since the first one is based on the MechWarrior 2 engine to some extent (as are Interstate '76 and Heavy Gear 1), that'll cause problems. The sequel will probably be easier to work with.
Smith and Tinker are getting rights to the games I think, they are making a reboot of the series and are releasing Mechwarrior 4 for free with it's expansions after they get the paperwork done. That was supposed to be about Thanksgiving but the deal is now in legal BS mode right now. Both sides agree but disagree.

Battlezone was easy to get running on XP as it had support for both DirectX & OpenGl, Where as Mechwarrior only support Glide from what i remember. I could never get M2 to work.
I had no trouble getting it to run on XP, and was playing it online, thanks to the community server that is still running long past its haydays.
The DOS version of MechWarrior 2 runs fine in DOSBox by the way. Even at 1024x768. Still a great game too!
You know, it's sad to see these old games tied up in licenses. Remember Terminator Skynet and Terminator Future Shock? Amazing games for their age and great fun. Too bad they'll never get released again because Bethesda lost the Terminator license. Well, that and they barely work in DOSBox (they use special CPU functions it seems).

I don't have any problems running either in DOSBox. Heck, I even uploaded a video on Youtube of Future Shock.
