I record every game i buy in an excel file. I note the original price, the price which i bought, the date, the sale name(like summer sale, insomnia promo etc).
If GOG could provide something like this online it would be really cool.

I'm not anywhere near $1000 spent on GOG, but I probably will pass the $500 mark by the time this sale is over. I think that's a decent amount, considering I've only been a customer for less than two years.

wpegg: This whole thing depresses me.
Buy a game because you want to play it.
Play it.
It's that cocking simple.
Why would something that gives other people joy and ultimately has no effect on your personal life cause you to feel depression? People should do whatever they want and seek enjoyment out of it however they see fit, and leave others to do the same. We are not all clones, we're individuals with individual thoughts, needs, desires, and we all should experience things in the way we think is best for ourselves, and not how others demand we should do it because that's how they would do it. It says 436 games on my virtual library, I guess I must have pass the $1k mark.
Based on the OP purchasing method, you can own the whole GOG catalog with $2-3K

abr_alex: Yes as Darvond suggested I made a table containing all GOG and Steam purchases. What's interesting is that I spent nearly 20% less at Steam in 3.5 years (359 games). Steam had higher discounts though and introduced regional pricing in September 2011 when nearly half of that sum was already spent. So you get an idea how low are russian prices in Steam - in 9 months with western prices I spent as much as during almost 3 years with russian prices ;)
But I have to say that for a long time a main incenitive to spend money at GOG was to support CD Project Red to help them make Witcher 3 as good as it is today.
I guess I'm not that organized but that's cool. My 367 games here on GOG would probably amount to about a thousand bucks or a little more. I do save the receipts though so I guess I could check but nah, it's OK. But good on you for supporting The Witcher 3! I didn't know Steam didn't do Russian price anymore so that must suck for you. But with all the games you have on Steam and GOG you should be busy for a long time! But I have to say that for a long time a main incenitive to spend money at GOG was to support CD Project Red to help them make Witcher 3 as good as it is today.

It reminds me of the story of John K Baringal, the inventor of the dildo. He created a candle that was argued to be the most efficient form possible. As the wax melted, it flowed around the surface in such a way that the wax would reach a solid state again at the correct point such that the shape would be maintained all the way down as the candle burned. This therefore prolonged the life of the candle, and was supposed to be a massive efficiency improvement of the time. Unfortunately it was also shaped like a penis, and the dildo was never employed correctly. Baringal later took his life through depression, despite bringing joy to many at no apparent cost to himself.
EDIT: I was in a silly mood this morning - this story is in fact entirely fictitious

I've got quite a lot of games on GOG and Steam myself, but I get them because I find them interesting to try out sometime, not because I'm in competition to be the person with the largest game collection. I don't give the slightest crap about that kind of trivial nonsense personally. I may however cross a milestone in my collection that is numerically interesting and share that, or participate in threads where such discussions are occurring. It's just friendly communication with people of similar interests. That's what I see here really. Also, from the monetary angle, it's interesting to know how much money myself or even someone else might have spent and feel good about having contributed that money to GOG in support of their cause of DRM-free gaming.
Again, it's all about what people want to perceive. You perceive a negative message, I myself see a positive one. Potato, potahtoe I guess. To each their own...

no way would dare to calculate my GOG and Steam "investment".
-bit later-
well, i checked steam calculator and its saying my accounts worth is $8677.42 during the past 10years - but then again, its probably using full prices and not counting the dozens and dozens of bundles correctly.
still, "too much" is probably the correct answer.
