This seems to be something of a controversial opinion, but I always preferred non-widescreen to widescreen. But unless you look for it especially, most monitors you get now are widescreen.

Thanks for organising the giveaway Sachys.
As for technology that was better but did not succeed, Molten Salt Reactors. It was basically nixed because the Nixon administration wanted reactors that would be better at breeding plutonium for thermonuclear bombs.

I'm in! I'd like to think the 64DD's disk should have been the format of choice than the N64 cartridge. Why the delay, Nintendo?

When I think of tech that should've gone somewhere and didn't, what comes to mind is the railway track/canal system prototype in ancient Greece. Then there's Archimedes mechanical calculator, steam hydraulics in ancient Rome, light bulbs in ancient Egypt & Babylon, a huge telescope in India created so long ago that no one knows who made it, whose lens were used by a king in prehistory to make a giant solar cooker (after having melted the metal off this amazingly early invention to make more shields and spear tips). All that's left of that early observatory is the stone cradle that held and moved the telescope. Then there's the earliest appearance of block printing and gunpowder in China, which didn't disappear exactly but somehow remained more a toy than the transforming inventions they would be elsewhere
The most amazing thing about the last couple of centuries is that this false starts seemed to have largely stopped happening. Most inventions do get used now, explored for their potential, etc
[Just for Sachys, We need another book report on Pride and Prejudice! *runs off giggling*}

Hmm, not looking to debate but while Macs have a legion of followers, they never quite caught on like the PC. I know you can't really say a multi-million dollar technology thats still going strong and has branched out to other fields as not catching on but compared strictly to the pc, its market share is much smaller. And if you'd ask people who have considerable experience with both, I'd say most of them would say Macs are the bettter of the two.
I'll be back in for this week, thanks!

Portable CD players. I mean, what were we thinking?? Sucker skipped like a mo'fo'. then the Archos Jukebox came out (best present EVAH, I still have mine somewhere) and that was the end of that. Held a thousand song, napster was at it's peak... ah, the good old days. :)
