I did meet a very unfriendly guy in WoW this morning. I got killed because he was 'preparing his addons' (WoW has lots of addons that offer different functionality based on the fight in question) for a stupid 3 minute fight that is a walk in the park (he as a tank should have taken all damage, not me).

He cursed me, I reported him (which will surely cost him a warning or ban from chatting for a few days). Best of all, since I was dead, I didn't bother with the fight, the remaining 4 guys completed it, and I got a totally random achievement that has 1:100 chance to come true, and the awesome ring that the boss dropped. :)

Nope, he was standing right near the pumpkin (the place from which the boss spawns (we were fighting the Headless Horseman)).

I quit Rift because they brought in some BS add-ons that measure dps etc. Just didnt feel like a MMO anymore, felt like factory work.

It all depends on the game. In a cooperative FPS like Killing Floor, a low perked noob joining a game on a high difficulty level is very likely to lead to a wipe. It doesn't matter how good they are, the game difficulty scales with the number of players and a low level perk is playing at a severe handicap. If they don't leave when asked it's best to kick them. It's not personal, they just can't pull their weight.

Similarly, a player with a appropriate level perk may be kicked if they try to join a game during one of the later waves. They won't have the resources earned from the lower waves and can be a drag on the team.

LOL. On the other hand, I've been kicked from many public servers just for my name. ;)

I play Crimecraft Gangwars (over 700 hours) and Nuclear Dawn (over 100 hours).

Never had problems in Nuclear Dawn because its blue vs red and no one really notices how good or bad you are.

In Crimecraft, i only play pvp and its extremely competitive. On top of that, i play in division1 tournaments with the best players in the game and these guys are NOT nice or forgiving at all. If u do poorly in one tournament, they will blacklist you and tell their gang members to blacklist you. Yeah, it can get nasty. Here is a list of recent comments made to me because i didnt get enough kills during a tourament:

Do something you phuckin noob.
Go play Barbie online noob.
My team sucks thanks to this noob.
I will never invite you again noob.
Get the hell out of my team noob or i will kick you.
Etc, you get the idea

And i still play the game, lol. I try to get even with these players when they are on the other team, i exploit their weaknesses and it pisses them off to no end because a "noob" killed them, lol.

World of Tanks is definitely one of the more fun online games I've played recently.

I'd recommend everyone interested in tank/shooting games to try it out since it's free to play. My nickname is "johnleafhill" if anyone needs some help.

I haven't played online multiplayer in almost 10 years, but I can see that the online gaming experience has not changed much since then.

I must be lucky or something. I usually have good experiences with online games. One thing that helps me is that i'm a very dedicated player, i always try to help my team as much as possible, i don't care about frag, kill death ratio, rank, or anything, as long as i'm doing my best to help my team. Most of the time i play FPSes, which i'm usually pretty good at, so i guess that helps.

I also learn really fast, i can get the hang of the game on my second match (unless it's a RTS, which i SUCK at).

I don't care if my teamates aren't that good. But there's one ting that pisses me off a lot in team based games: selfish assholes. I really hate those guys who don't give a fuck about their team and just want to kill as many as possible, even though the game is objective based. That pisses me off. If you want to kill as many people as possible there's a mode for you called deathmatch.

I play MW3 very often in domination mode, and it really pisses me off when i'm constantly trying to capture all the points, defending, and doing everything by myself while a bunch of assholes are camping just to get a fucking MOAB.
The only type of game i have problem with online is RTS, because i really suck at it. The only RTS that i used to be good at was AOE2, before Microsoft killed Zone servers.

I remember one 2x2 match on Starcraft 2 when a guy on the other team left and the other one had to play alone against both of us. And even then we lost, lol. One guy beat us both. Oh shit, i suck so much at SC2.

I dislike "serious" competitive multiplayer. Don't mind multiplayer that is more cooperative though. Or at least lighthearted. Team Fortress 2 and Killing Floor are my favorites due to that. It's all in good fun.

On the other hand I DID enjoy some of the DOTA2 matches I've played, the ones where people did not take it completely seriously and actually HELPED me and coordinated.

My best experiences with multiplayer has been with co-op games. In fact, my best multiplayer experience was with a co-op Source mod. The community couldn't be called mature, but it still beat most other multiplayer experiences I've had.

The thing with competitive multiplayer is you either have to try your luck with public servers, join a clan, or play privately with friends. I've stopped bothering with public servers, don't have time for a clan, and don't have enough gamer friends. :'(

I once got bashed in WoW for saving a fellow player from being overrun by mobs. The basher? the very same person I saved. Apparently I was a "f*ng noob" for not getting any loot, which he then proceeded to link me.

Well, lesson learned. Do not help other people :)

There is a reason why I prefer single player.
1) win or lose is on me alone
2) People making the game serious business
3) I play games for fun, and have a life outside the virtual world
4) I don't like playing with teenage twits who think cussing makes them sound like adults. Most adults I know have a little more creativity than constantly resorting to four letter words which don't take a lot of brain power to use.

Needless to say, but I hang around the casual crowd when I'm playing mmo's.

yeah, I don't play much MP (mostly L4D) but this attitude is just dumb.

I do understand it if the game has difficulty settings and a noob just joins an "Expert" game or something like that, but most of the time it's unwarranted douchbaggery. Everyone was a noob at some point in time! As long as the newbie is showing goodwill you should point his mistakes when necessary and tell him how to do things instead and just be nice FFS.

Or at least be relatively civil about it. It is one thing to give advice along the lines of "Target the healer, you idiot, he's [insert username]" or "Damnit, you morons don't mob up we need to capture the points!" I can understand frustration in a competitive environment, but it is another thing to start slinging person attacks and general douchbagery. And I just love it when a guy is calling us a bunch of noobs when he is doing his fair share of fail. </sarcasm>
