darthspudius: I truly fucking HATE that video... and I only saw it once. It's a good example of how stupid people have become in my opinion.
Yes it is, because it's clever commentary on the quality of pop music. Do not mistake it for the kind of music it mocks.

SovietSharkey: Not seen video but song itself burned my ears
I will admit if I liked that kind of music I would probably have found it funny though
Check it out. It's worth it. Also I probably wouldn't have found it nearly as funny if I hadn't instantly seen the video. Heck, I would have probably mistaken it for a serious effort by some dumb assholes.

F4LL0UT: (snip)
I'd second all your statements. It's almost satire and I had a good laugh.

Unfortunately I am surrounded by people who actually regard it as music so I had to listen to it on the radio 500x before I actually saw it. * sigh * I probably would of got a chuckle out of it otherwise.

Is this the Norwegian version of Het Kuikentje Piep? These down to earth animal songs are all the rage in Europe for some reason. Don't try to make sense of it. ;)

I see your point and I might actually feel similarly about the song if I had first heard it zillions of times on the radio.
Ignore the chorus of What Does the Fox Say, and you actually have a really good song. The worst part is by far the "sounds" the Fox might make.

Ylvis are freaking amazing though. If you want to hear better stuff, check out Jan Egeland & Stonehenge. Amazing comedy songs with legitimate musical talent. They're comparable to the Lonely Island due to parody work, but are in a different league talent wise.

Dude, it's the very essence of the song!
Pow pow pow pa pow pa pow pow!

Plus those sounds are actually inspired by the *real* sounds foxes make. That's what makes it so brilliant. :D
Enjoy the korean version:

Jan Egeland and Stonehenge would rank #1 and #2 on my list.
From many years of experience of hearing foxes trying to get into the bins or chasing cats in the night or whatever, foxes sound like a mix somewhere inbetween that of a baby crying and a demon screaming. Video is not accurate. 1/10

Ach, I got my own back and made one of the bastards listen to 12 hours of Deicide. \m/ Hasn't played the bloody song since!
It's a song about a poor artist who can't figure out what does a fox say while thinking of stonehenge at his cabin, what's wrong with you people?
When I heard the song the first time on radio, I liked it, mainly because it didn't take itself seriously and was kinda surprising to suddenly hear a song like that on the radio. I kept thinking the "band" must be from Estonia or maybe Germany (Germans seem to have that kind of humor as far as I can tell), but it was from Norway. Close enough.

There was a poll on the radio right after that whether it is a hit or shit, the votes seemed to go 50-50. It seemed to me that men liked it more than women. I guess it is similar humor as those Korean "Gangnam Style" and "Gentleman" videos earlier this year.

I'm still not sure what is supposed to be the funniest thing about it. Is it because it sounds like "What the fuck say?", and that's the only way to get something like that on (US) radio? And yeah, no one never really thought before what the fox says, but this finally revealed it to me:

They started showing the Ylvis Show here on TV due to the popularity of that video. I watched one episode, hated the show.

As it happens, some months ago when I was driving late at night (I had stopped to lights), next to my car only a few meters away, I saw a fox and (I think) a raccoon (raccoon dog? "supikoira" in Finnish) fighting on the side of the road, next to the forest. The fox screamed aggressively to the raccoon which panicked and started running away across the four lane road, away from the fox. A car coming from the other direction hit the raccoon, I don't think it survived (it wasn't driven over by the car, but the car hit its upper body pretty hard).

Germans have no sense of humor. I know, I've lived there. Nah, but joking aside, most of my German friends with whom I've talked about Ylvis agreed that the humor in their songs beats anything German comedians/musicians do in terms of style and sophistication, that it's something that Germans just wouldn't come up with. I recall a few similar things by German comedians (for instance the Rammstein parody Wurstwasser) and it's just not quite the same league or style.
The SNL parody of The Fox was actually funny for a change.
