SimonG: No, Copyright infringement is copyright infringement.

And stealing is stealing.

And you are a troll.
unfortunately under UK law he's right it's now a criminal matter under the latest act -.- hence SOCA taking down an RnB mix site... If any part of Abandonware sites is in the UK they could be seized and the owners arrested (heres the worst part) anywhere in the world with a UK extradition agreement...

ktchong: But hey, seeing that you're from China, I can understand you are clueless about copyright... or just the concept of any "right" in general, i.e., human rights, rights to practice religions, rights to free speech, right to say whatever that's on one's mind, right to disagree, right to speak one's mind freely and practice whatever belief without the fear of being locked up and tortured and mysteriously disappearing, etc.
Instead,China have been always claiming so many "rights" about territory.
The reason is rather simple. GamersGate provide product specific affiliate links. GOG does not. GOG's affiliate program (at least when I used it - I stopped long ago), only provided a link that went to the GOG homepage. Linking directly to a related product was not possible.

That must have changed as this link makes clear
The concept of abandonware can certainly be deemed in some cases (if not all cases), immoral. If my brother stopped hosting his pictures on Deviant Art, I'm pretty sure he would be pissed off if I just started spreading around them around the Internet of my own accord.

ktchong obviously came over as a little too heavy handed for his own good, though.

Good point, but I still don't think abandonware is all bad. I've been a visitor to Abandonia almost since its beginnings. They've been pretty good about pulling games once the devs start attempting to sell them again (Betrayal at krondor comes to mind).

And hey, beleive it orn not, there have been cases where I had downloaded a game, only to have it start being sold again via GOG, and I bought it anyway (Lands of Lore for example).

Let's face it, many of the titles Abandonia has will likely NEVER appear on GOG or anyone else, for a myriad of reasons. For example, i don't know who owns the rights to the Legend games, like Shannara, so they may never appear here. So I've gotten them from Abandonia. But if they do appear here I'd likely buy them, not only out of morality, but because GOG titles are usually pre configured and I can easily move them between computers.

Apparantly Legend Entertainment was bought by GT Interactive and then owned by Infogrames/Atari until they closed it down. No idea if Atari still owns rights to Legend adventures though. I think it's not impossible that they'd appear here provided the rights-owner think there's enough interest in them to make it worth it.
