bevinator: Magical girl anime always confused me terribly. I'm obviously not the target audience, but when FLCL makes more sense to me, there's definitely a problem somewhere.
Slayers is most definitely not a magical girl anime. "Magical Girl" is something completely different, having a sorceress as a main character is not enough.

True. She resembles western RPG sorceress more than any other type. It clearly has nothing to do with Sailor Moon or other magical girls anime :P

Fair enough, as I've not actually watched it. I just assumed it was on account of the "extremely long and intricate spinny casting animation by a magical girl that's never interrupted by the bad guys." That's only 50% of the recipe, of course. You also need lots of TEEN DRAMA, which you can't really convey in a short youtube video. My mistake.

This one was the most powerful spell in the universe. It requires using the ancient artifact and calling upon some Dark Lord to aid you with power.

But it also has fire arrows, fireballs, disintegration and all kinds of generic western RPG spells. It's also pretty fun :D

Wathing Slayers... you sometimes wonder, with one is the bad guy there :P. Anyway, Slayers is great fantasy/comedy and long incantations are not smt you will see often.

Even that is not enough. You can't be a"magical girl" without a transformation sequence! Preferably one that would make mothers shield the eyes of their young children.

I always loved the MG42 sound in Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30. It's like a motorcycle spitting lead.

Also Counter-Strike's AK47 sound is almost iconic. The sound really says "skulls will explode".

On the topic of that I hate the MG42 in Battlefield 1942 that gun in the game is a fire harazrd, the barrel flash is so bright I can barely see who I am shooting at.
