Snickersnack: Doom's shotgun is a great weapon but its sound effects are mediocre. Quake1's nailguns sound much more potent for instance. There are surely better examples.
Personally I like Doom 3's shotgun, it has that umph.

Talking about weapons in games I found the it great using a nailgun while listening to Nine Inch Nails as soundtrack to the game. Also the sound was quite good.

Edit: Checked the NiN wiki, completely forgot that the ammo boxes were labeled with NiN.

Some of the gun sounds used in Jane's Fighters Anthology are pretty good, especially some of those featured on Russian-built platforms (aircraft and various AAA). Not entirely realistic, perhaps, but great nonetheless.

Halo 4 has some pretty awesome weapon sounds. Especially the shotgun.

Doom's shotgun does sound really awesome, though. In fact, all of Doom's weapons are really fun to fire.

Ivory&Gold: The Overwatch Standard Issue Pulse Rifle from Half-Life 2 feels and sounds pretty damn great.
Ahh, yes. Probably the only decent weapon sound in Halflife 2 (besides the shotgun reloading, of course)

Magical girl anime always confused me terribly. I'm obviously not the target audience, but when FLCL makes more sense to me, there's definitely a problem somewhere.

But Slayers is aweome :D One of the best fantasy themed anime ever. Chronicles of Lodoss War is better, though (it has dragons! http://itamejihada.net/cels/lod/lod/shooting_star_cel.jpg )
